Teach your children that they don’t have to do ANYTHING that makes them feel uncomfortable. Parents - support them when they don’t want to do something. I read a book called Surviving Ophelia when I was in college, and it was very helpful in teaching me this, and now I’ve taught my girls.

This is awesome!! I was Lindsey's roommate at training centers! We were "chosen" at the same seminar in Atlanta and we rode to Indianapaolis together on the way to Headquarters! I was just thinking about her the other day...I commented before, Davey, and I definitely want to share my story now!!!! I live in Katy, Texas now. Thanks for exposing IBLP I was in that cult in 1980's and 1990's. My family is so messed up and separated from each other from that curriculum. I am still working out my own life and becoming healthy. After 15 years, my family is coming back together. Not in my time Thanks for exposing.

I am a Christian, and have had friends harmed by the ifb, iblp, and you are completely right! I do not care what church it is, if they are allowing abuse they are flat out wrong. I am much more liberal than many years ago, but I would not belong to a church that does not have safe guards especially for children. I would leave a church that would protect a sexual offender. I had a hair dresser that got involved in fundamentalism, and condemned me for using antidepressants to manage my major depression. I know fundamentalists would consider me a heretic, but I choose to love God, and strive to love others, no matter who they are. It is not always easy, and I don’t do it perfectly, but I know God loves me even though I don’t follow all the rules that fundamentalists believe you should follow. I have told the transformed wife, that she is going to be surprised at who s heaven!

wow. that was quite the story. whenever i think this Gothard/iblp thing cannot get any wierder, it gets wierder. But the truth needs to come out, if only to keep others from falling for this stupidity. Definitely she has survivor guilt. Understandable. but she did what she could with the tools she had at the time. i do not know what to say that would be encouraging except maybe that i heard her all the way to the end

It is devastating when people use the Bible to hate. Something to consider is that if God of Christianity is the true God, and if there is an enemy of God (Satan/devil) then wouldn't it make sense why there are soooo many demoninations and 'Christian' cults (ie, Mormon) with false teachings to twist the truth just enough that people then use it to hurt others or use it for their own personal pleasure because that does sound just like what an enemy of God would do (with the assumption that there is a God). Among the other major religions. There are not near the amount of denominations or off-shoot cults.... Maybe that's bc there is no truth in those to the core. Just a thought.

My sister and I were 2 of the "broken birds" she referenced. II was 16 and my sister was 12. I went on to travel with him, and he wanted me to move into the house he shared with his mom to personally care for her...and more!! It was beyond awful but we survived!!!!

Thanks for speaking out Lindsey! I am a Christian and also a counselor and from the minute I heard of allegations against Bill I believed the victims! It's so sad and insane people are still defending him and so many other predators. I am saddened to hear you are athiest now but I totally understand your anger with the Christian world and I am thankful you have spoken out against Bill and IBLP.

Hear us, believe us, support us when we do speak, amplify our voices by sharing when we do speak and then engage with others you might know who could benefit from hearing these stories. Keep a wary eye out for others who seem ompressed, distrustful, anxious and distinct from others. They might need empathy and support to come forward with their stories too.
