Boy I know this part! All that ruff undercoat takes so much time to comb out.I’ve owned 7 Keeshonden since 1982. So much grooming. Worth every minute though. Best companion dog there is.❤️❤️❤️

My grandmother always used this fur for spinning wool, as there was so much of it. My mum did not spin the wool, but when we groomed our various Keeshonds/Wolfsspitze we always left the wool in the patio. The birds then came and took it with when they were building nests. I do admire your dog's patience - our dogs always threw a tantrum!

I’ve done this so many times I couldn’t remember them all. I got my first Kees in 1982. I’m on number 7 and she’s just an Angel. As long as I’m not to enthusiastic she doesn’t give a peep. A good brush out once or twice a week will keep the mats at bay.

That’s a Keeshond.

I have a friend who would spin Keeshond fur with cashmere and make Keesmere. She has made the most wonderful hats, scarves and mittens out it. Like a Keeshond, it's even waterproof! Her female didn't have the best coat but my big male did and she loved to get the bags of blown fur from him. After 2 girls I finally got another boy and can't wait until he completely grows his adult coat so I can create some Keesmere myself. There used to be several spinners on Etsy who would spin yarn from your Kees fur but I haven't looked in a long time.

What's the difference between the Wolfspitz and a Keeshound? They look the same.
@dlakcapetgrooming17483 жыл бұрын
No difference, just two names for the same breed :)

Big difference : Wolfsspitz 5000 year old breed, bigger size and bigger ears. An traditional german guard dog, becoming very rare nowadays.

One of my (registered, champion sired) Keeshonden was a Wolfspitz throwback. He weighed about 55 lbs instead of the Kees standard 40, and now that you mention it he did have the bigger ears. He really was magnificent, though; everyone still living who knew him talks about Bear.

Thank you, I had my information wrong and thought the grey Wolfspitz was extinct. I don’t know where I read that. I had to do some studying 🙂

In Germany the Keeshond is called a Wolfspitz. Everywhere else it's a Keeshond.

Keeshond?

Yes it's the name for German Wolfspitz. Two names for one breed.

I thought the German Eolf Spitz went extinct in the 1500’s.
