How to Groom a Keeshond Dog

I just bought a grooming arm for my long sewing table to be able to groom my Keesie between the 2-3 professional grooms a year. Thank you for your video. This helps me to know just how to handle the groom. My biggest problem with my girl is she sits down immediately and doesn't want to stand up again! I do work hard to be gentle, but sometimes she thinks I am killing her and yells at me. Kippy is not a show dog, just a love-bug pet. I have had 3 of these beautiful dogs over the years. Have not ever found a more loving, sweet, gentle fluff butt.

You also don't shave their fur/hair because it protects their skin from getting sunburned, provides a cooling system, and also insulates in cold weather. Their coats are amazing! Beautiful boy.

Adorable pup! Line brushing on damp fur works best for me. I use a water spray bottle and oval brushes that are similar to the one you have. Sometimes I use combs. Since the undercoat is like lambswool I don't discard it. It's good for filling up space in shoes and boots, plus it keeps your toes warm.

My family had Keeshonden for many years; we loved them dearly. Didn't see one for a very long time until a few weeks ago where I just ran into a man out walking his; my enthusiasm burst out immediately and the dog caught on to it right then and there. He and I exchanged a few stories about Keesie behavior that showed how well we understood them. Because I'm too painful to walk a dog now I have cats but I prefer medium to long coats because I still enjoy the luxurious feel of all that fur. about Keesie behavior

@@ryan1088 when Yanto was younger I usually brushed him about once a week, less now as he’s got a thinner coat now he’s an older boy!

My 15 year old that I just lost hated being groomed. Basically for the past 6 years. The older he got the more he fussed. He actually would run from me. My 6 year old Hannah loves any kind of attention and is very tolerant like your boy here. Daddy’s good girl!

My first Keeshond was a pound puppy, so matted that the vet did not know what he was. His coat was so bad, that he had to be shaved. Out grew a fluffy Keeshond. For the 30 years since, all my Keesies have come from the local Keeshond Rescue.

I have "rescued" all three of my Keeshonds over the years also. From people who didn't want or couldn't keep them anymore. I adopted a young (3), retired show dog years ago that had a tiny simple "flaw" with his front feet, so they retired him from showing. I adopted two girls over the years also. Heart dogs every one. Puppy mills are the worst. I have seen heartbreaking stories about these places and the trauma inflicted on these gorgeous creatures. Good for you, rescuing locally from a shelter!

I have 2 Keeshonds and find the rake to be the easiest to use for the undercoat.

The undercoat seems to grow constantly. Both of mine have very dense undercoat!

How do you groom the inside area where the legs meet the trunk? Is there a way to do that with the dog standing up? I have to flip my boy over on his back to get to those places. I find the hair there wants to tangle a lot.

I tend to just lift one leg up to brush the other side and then do the same on the other side if that makes sense!

Hello, so I was thinking about getting Kees at some point in the future, and I was wondering if you’re allowed to trim them (let’s say maybe around one inch down from their natural coats), if not please don’t mistaken me for a terrible person, I just found out about these dogs a few minutes ago and wanted to make sure I knew possibly everything that involves keeping them comfortable and groomed, thank you! :)

Hi! You shouldn’t clip a Keeshond’s coat as it can damage it and also sometimes actually make them go bald! That’s why regular brushing is so important. Hope this helps :)

Hi, regular brushing definitely helps to keep them cool and we only walk him early morning and evening when it's hot but otherwise he copes pretty well in the heat 😊

I do go through the ones I use in the video but I would say and wide tooth metal comb, a pin brush and slicker brush are the ones you need :)

Usually about twice a year to change to/from winter and summer coats. :) Otherwise they don’t actually shed that much which is why we have to brush out all the dead undercoat 👍🏻

IMO, if you don't keep up on grooming, like an everyday brush, you WILL have hair everywhere. I don't allow my girl on the furniture, but there are balls of fluff all over the house all year long. I keep a lint roller on hand and sweep or vacuum a lot. They are worth the shedding because they are such great dogs.

15 minutes a week and try different tools I use a mat breaker on Agamemnon and a greyhound comb on Lola Lola does not like grooming she barks at my wife when she combs her own hair

Your process is ridiculous! Never just brush randomly all over, jumping around. What a waste of time this video is.
