what a beautiful dog. Can't imagine how he ended up in rescue. I have a heavy coated australian shepherd . heavier coated than my aussies before him. So I go to the rough collie grooming videos. They are very helpful.

I had a collie for 15 years and grooming was like a western movie stand off. me on one side with the brush and shampoo and my collie on the other side looking at me sideways! LOL!

my Rough Coated Collie is also my service dog. he is professionally groomed once a week, because he has to be clean and pest free to go with me in public. i DID choose a RCC on purpose because i love the breed and "Lassie" did all my P.R. work. the most often asked question is about too much hair making him too hot or too cold. i try to explain the hair is an insulator which is like a puffy jacket. i LOVE my groomer!

I can vouch for the hair vs heat lol. My hair is curly and grows fast, it insulates against heat....trust me when I get it cut I can feel the difference! Surprised collies aren't used more for service dog then what they are, they love attention and have to be near you all the time. Their is a smooth variety to offset the grooming needs, though they tend to be more drivin.

I personally usually have a spraybottle of water with just a little dog conditioner in and mist the coat lightly (so its not so static) and then I start with a wide teeth comb and advance down to more and more teeth and just gently get it out. Slickers usually just side upon the coat instead of down through it. A normal pinbrush similar to or same as human brushes usually works pretty good too if the dog is sensitive to pulling of the comb. :)

My dog has a thick coat even for a collie. I swear her hip whorls and pants blow coat all year round! She's easy to brush and comb thankfully. She'll sit still but she makes this grumpy face with her mouth all pursed up.

Very rough brushing. I wouldn't like this on my boys and using a harness will help him to stand. Unfortunately the dogs barking in the background was so loud I couldn't listen any longer. Great information though

Could you send me a list of bathing products you use on a rough collie? Are some products coat and color dependant? The reason I'm asking is i'll get a rough collie for show in a few weeks and i want to make sure i have everything i need to care for him/her properly.

If you mean shaving it down, NO. A smooth collie would fit that criteria. There's a limit to how short their coat should be, as it protects them from overheating and skin problems.
