Thank you for sharing this, so many people don't even know what a wisp is anymore

I haven't used one in years. So people still use them?

@@LauraKellandMay hi, yes, sometimes. I help out at a local equine community project, and if I have time I will use one

Enormously grateful for this video and accurate instructions! Was very excited by the idea of durable, ecological, CHEAP and effective (massage)brush. And was very upset when found so few images and info on the net. (only seen it before in movies and heard) THANK YOU for live shooting of the process! Greetings from Odessa, Ukraine!

The first one I made was with alfalfa. That didn't work real well. LOL. The next one I made was with grass hay and worked great. I've lost it and need to make another. This was all 29 to 30 years ago here in the good ole U.S.A.

I came here for some actual video of the weaving step, could you please show this part? I don't fully understand how to "Weave the rope through the two loops"
@LauraKellandMay5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I'll get to that. The weaving is looping back and forth thru the loops. Over one under one then back over under in the other direction.

Never heard of it!

Thank you for your comment. A hay whisp is a part of your grooming kit, your full grooming kit. It is used to be quite common and really brings a "Bloom" to your horses coat.

How long have wisps been used? Medieval times? Pre - 16th century?

Thank you for this! I've made many wisps, experimenting with the kind of braid or knot until I achieved the best possible form. I am saddened that it is necessary to advise peole not to bang the wisp onto the horse. Surely It is the mark of fools to boisterously slap horses as if they're beating a rug or piece of furniture. One of the best pieces of advice I was ever given was to stroke a horse as gently as if it was a little bird. Of course they enjoy firmer massaging too, but they are just as sensitive as us and are the gentlest of creatures until some idiot brutalises them. I shall send you a picture of one of my wisps soon.

I love using a whisp. It brings a certain Bloom to the horses coat.
