@@CyberWarezz05it’s the true symbolism. It symbolizes the joining of humanity as far back as human civilization has existed. Read about a bride who requested to not have cake shown in her face because of trauma. Her whole childhood, her family would ruin her birthday by pressing cake in her face. No matter how often she told them that it upsets her. So she begged to at least have her wedding day without a cake in the face, yet her husband did it anyways to ”get closer to her family”. So yes, that caused a sort of trauma in her that yet another big event in her life would be ruined. It became a genuine fear that she worried about and begged her husband to not fullfill. Which her husband said he wouldn’t, and then did. Is it the worst thing that can happen to someone? No, not by a long shot. When I got married (am now divorced) the groom insisted during the entire planning stage that he wanted there to be cake smashing involved at the wedding, despite my protests every step of the way. My dress was the most expensive part of our wedding, and I put so much time and effort into my hair and makeup that if I got cake smashed, the reception would be over. I'd rather leave than try and recover. We eventually decided to have our guests put donations in jars with our names on them and whoever's jar had the most money when we went to cut the cake would get smashed. That way it was a 50/50 shot and he would have to take the risk of losing instead of it being guaranteed to be me. He lost, despite spending a lot of time at the reception convincing his family to put money in my jar. I don't know why it was so important to him, it's not even funny, but I'm grateful that at the end of the day, he was the one with cake on his face and he realized exactly why that isn't a cute, fun, nice thing to do.

I read about a bride and groom where the groom shoved a huge piece of cake into his bride's face. She had asked him not to do this and he promised her that he wouldn't, but he did it anyway and laughed at her. The bride then announced that reception was over and everyone should take their gifts back as she was getting an annulment. AND SHE DID! That very smart lady dumped his lying ass as fast as possible. I think the bad groom behaviour is a mixture of the man-child 'pay attention to me' and a 'for the bros' mentality where weddings are deemed to be another frivolous girly thing (and like all girly things, inherently silly and wasteful) that grooms are forced to endure, so they "joke" around "for the bros" to win their social approval, establish a sense of dominance and get to be the centre of attention while also punishing their wife for her "silly girly indulgence". Especially with the cake smash where they ruin her expensive makeup, dress and any later photos, as well as the expensive cake, which are all still considered to be feminine things. They don't ruin the booze or the rest of the reception, or prank their best man or ruin the buck's night, which are just fun guy stuff. Even during the wedding, these guys don't respect their brides

As a wedding videographer and editor, I am subjected to the worst of the worst of vows and cake cuttings. I also see it as a massive sign when the guy basically makes his wife do the cake cutting alone (like not holding the knife and helping pull the slice out of the cake and onto the plate) and you could say "well he doesn't know what he's doing" But do you think SHE has ever cut a wedding cake either?! That and if the grooms act like they were basically dragged along to their own wedding when uh hey bud, YOU are the one who asked HER to marry YOU!

I want to mention how dangerous smashing or throwing the full cake can be. My aunt runs a business that makes wedding cakes and I’ve helped her a lot growing up, and if some cakes or decorations are so big they need to have dowels, (which is basically like some small poles to help support and distribute the weight on the cake). Some are made out of harder materials than others obviously, some of the main dowels my aunt used for a while were made out of wood. There’s also different thicknesses that dowels are used in depending on the size of the wedding cake, so it can be dangerous smashing or throwing a cake because of the dowels.

Many times the guy will say, “it’s just a joke.” Or “I didn’t hit you that hard” or “you should’ve made me angry.” And blame the partner, and if a close friend or family member says something, the abused partner may get defensive and explain away the behavior using the abusive partner’s reason. It’s not that it isn’t noticed before, but it is minimized. As an event/wedding captain and coordinator, you can always tell how long a marriage is going to last based on cake cutting alone. Cake cutting ceremonies in weddings can be very controversial and this is well known in the wedding industry that cake smashing is a bad sign. Typically (based off of my experience and what I have seen and heard from couples as well as wedding photographers), the more a groom tries to humiliate a bride during any part of the wedding, but especially during the cake cutting, the more toxic the relationship is. So far every single wedding I've done where the cake smashing was any more than a little frosting on the nose, the couple is now divorced.

my aunt and uncle did a pre-planned cake smash because they're both very big on extravegant jokes and just messing around, but my aunt didn't have professionally done makeup for her wedding and they were both in different outfits for their reception. they had discussed it from the very beginning because it was something they wanted to do for pictures and just for fun, but avoid ruining the expensive cake, expensive clothes, etc. i understand why some people find it funny if both agree on it, but to me so many of these videos just scream "i don't actually want to get married". normally the brunt of wedding planning is pushed onto the bride and then to purposefully throw a wrench into things when you get to the part where the stress is finally supposed to be ending is just so mean. i just don't understand why anyone would want to purposefully upset the person you're marrying

now that you've mentioned the thing with the bride usually planning the wedding, i suppose those guys also don't understand and don't really care about all the effort that went behind each thing, including the cake. plus, it must be part of the "joke" to ruin something your partner has worked so hard for, even though that's such an asshole thing to do (genuinely it pisses me off, i really don't udnerstand why you'd want to upset someone you're supposed to love)

I told my husband I really didn’t want cake smashed in my face at our reception. He’s definitely the joker out of the two of us but I trusted him to respect me. He did; but he did squish a cupcake on our daughters face. I was so worried she would be upset but they had talked about it beforehand. Get you a man that respects boundaries y’all.

honestly a cute homage to the cake smashing tradition while respecting everyone's boundaries. good on your husband

That's actually so cute (if you talk to her about it earlier) because not only is your daughter getting a moment to feel like a bride when the tradition was spent on her, but a little girl probably isn't wearing makeup, and also wouldn't mind licking sweet stuff off her face. I think we should start making flower girls face the cake smash if they want to.

I recently got married to the sweetest man I’ve ever met and on our wedding day when it came to the cake cutting, everyone was yelling at us to smash the cake on each other and it was the most obnoxious thing ever. We just cut our cake and gave it each other without having to ruin each other’s clothes or makeup and everyone was so disappointed, kind of funny though

Someone yelled that out at my wedding and me, the groom and my sister all said in unison NO. That cake was GONE. We didn't do the anniversary piece, which I kinda regret

I think that shows off your strength though, neither of you to not give into peer pressure and not give a f if it disappoints guest. Congratulations ❤

Why do people think something so disrespectful is normal and funny
