A man who constantly surrounds himself with bikini-clad models is EXACTLY the man to forbid his own gf, fiancee or wife to wear anything too revealing. You see, he judges all other men by his own standards, and categorised women into those that can be freely objectified and HIS PROPERTY that other men can't get a chance to see too much of because it would harm HIM.

@@karenamyx2205 But she is though. Obviously she is "consenting" but clearly he has way more control of her life than he should, and no, I'm not saying this ONLY because of Say Yes To The Dress. Not to mention that she is very religious, so there is a high possibility she was conditioned by her parents as well to listen to her husband and essentially live her life to please her husband. So that idealogy combined with the fact he LITERALLY DRESSES HER?? Like I can completely understand not wanting a random person to be judged based on stuff that was scripted or worrying about "cancel culture" but if you genuinely do not see how this women could potentially be being manipulated and choose to argue with the few of us who feel uncomfortable enough to say something then you need to educate yourself on manipulation tactics and abuse to better protect yourself. Just think how many women would up and leave their dick husbands and become themselves. He reminds me of my ex who never let me wear shorts outside of the house. Thankfully I realized and got out single 4 years and loving it. It’s a world built for couples but if you work super hard you won’t need a fuck boy gaslighting you just so you can have a bed to lay in. And also fuck sharing beds who wants that noise not me. Might of went a bit too hard commenting but man this really makes me happy that I became independent to myself I don’t need anyone I just want now. I assume they were raised in an abusive household, so abuse is their normal. That was the case for my mom, and she got me a few steps away from that abuse. She completely cut off contact with her family, went through years of counseling, and married a husband who was not physically abusive like her parents. But her husband / my father was psychologically abusive. And most of her "friends" were manipulative and verbally bullied her. It took us both until my adulthood to recognize the psychological abuse and try to get away from it, as much as we can given our limited financial resources (e.g., not being able to move away from neighbors who harass us). If all you ever experience is abuse, it becomes impossible to recognize. And so a lot of people convince themselves that they are okay with it because that's psychologically easier than identifying as a victim.

I really feel like someone needs to mention that yes, Jack is wearing a suit that is both way too big for him and completely untailored, as well as wearing a style of shirt that isn't meant to be worn with a tie (I'm pretty sure you're supposed to be wearing a bowtie with that type of shirt collar). His vest is also insanely long (it should fall at around belt-buckle length) and the colour's not one I would've done- it almost looks like his shirt is untucked at the bottom. Not to mention that he just seems generally confused about what occasion he's dressed for-- it looks like he just picked out whatever was on sale and went from there. If anything, he's the least classy person at his own wedding (although I have no doubt that anyone could surmise that from his Instagram).

Did some research because I was curious. Whatever episode of Say Yes to the Dress this was occurred around 10 years ago, because Meg Liz Owoc's official Facebook acc has that she got married in February of 2012. That makes her 25 when she married Jack Owoc, and makes Jack around 51 (according to most sites, he's born 1961). While 26 years is still a pretty big age gap it's not a staggering 40 years difference. But he definitely gives off yikes controlling vibes in this short excerpt. Another interesting thing is that Jack Owoc started Bang Energy in 2012, so I think Bang probably launched right after they got married. This explains why he's not as uh, dressing as he does on Bang social media content - he hopefully didn't start the eye-popping coloured outfits til Bang social took off XD Also, at least according to Meg Liz's Linkedin profile, she's been a Director of Marketing of Bang since it launched and became the senior Director of Marketing in 2021. She also seems to be hugely involved in Bang social media content production. They've been together a decade and have 5 kids. Just hope their rel isn't as controlling as it comes off in this excerpt :/

7:30 Just so everyone in this community is aware, as someone who’s been in a controlling relationship and who studies domestic violence, she very likely says she doesn’t know what she wants because her autonomy has been taken away from her. When someone controls everything you do/wear, you lose your sense of self and your confidence, and making decisions can become very difficult. Oddly I feel so seen reading that, I haven't been in a toxic relationship but my mother is so much like that and always has been, she's even like that with my dad. That is exactly the effect it has had on me, it may sound stupid and ungrateful but it really affected me. I don't even like her taste much but often there's either so much guilt tripping/insulting undertones (or even plain insults), or I'm instinctively _expecting_ there to be, that I just completely give up on my (very normal, basic and not at all inappropriate) wishes because it's just not worth feeling so awful again and there's no other solution. It is interesting though that if I look at someone I do know what I like and don't about how they're dressed, but when it comes to thinking about getting clothes for myself I have no idea and just look for the most absolute basic stuff, with that at least you can try the excuse that it's comfortable.

@AdamQuigley2 жыл бұрын
I agree his commentary is very annoying, but I think the outcome pretty clearly illustrates that he was just honestly expressing his opinion and part of the problem is that she lets him influence her decisions way too much. He ultimately deferred to her without putting up a fuss. He stepped out when asked and bought the dress she wanted without seeing it until their wedding day. It's not like he was unyielding when she actually mustered enough resolve to even half-heartedly advocate for herself.
@Lisa_Flowers2 жыл бұрын
@@AdamQuigley I mean, this isn't the case for every relationship like theirs, but there is a ginormous difference in age, authority, and personal wealth. He is literally her father's age, and probably makes many times what she makes. He probably has kids closer in age to her than him. There _is_ a power difference. It's hard for relationships with that big of a power differential to have both partner's feelings equally valued _unless_ the partner with more power actively gives space for the less powerful partner to express themselves and is encouraging of that. Even if he doesn't seem like he's being forceful, him immediately shooting down her feelings about HER dress and not prioritising how she actually feels _is_ controlling. You can express an honest opinion but there are also times when you acknowledge that your opinion is not the most important one in the room (can't imagine he understands that all too well as a ceo of a company lol) . There are times when that you should take a primarily _supportive_ role. That is the case with wedding dress fittings. The bride's feelings come first. You can have your opinions, but if your fiancee very _clearly_ likes a specific style of dress, her opinions outweighs yours, plain and simple. Also worth pointing out that people with more power sometimes actively seek out people they know have less power than them BECAUSE they're easier to control. Again, this isn't always the case, but him being so much older and likely wealthier, and her immediately defering to his opinion as if that is a pre-established dynamic in their relationship, is NOT a good sign. It isn't fair to say 'well she should have been more assertive' when this power dynamic is very clearly present. She's responsible for asserting herself yes, but their relationship might not be a hospitable environment to do that.
