As usual, you knock it out of the park Scott. I'm new to bass playing and an Academy member. What I think is terrific is that if I want to learn or familiarize with a technique, I can pretty much find it here. When starting to learn, I decided to take advice from you and some of your guests to develop you skill in reading music (both bass and treble clefs) and solid understanding of theory as my foundational training, because it does open up so many more opportunities. Anyway, good show...kudos.

Hey Scott Randy from Detroit Michigan say think you for your inspirational videos they help out a lot on stuff I don't know, watching and learning stuff I didn't know chords and how to use appeggios and rhythm I have gotten better, still raggedy but I working on better my studies and I hope to get better at playing the bass guitar thanks and stay blessed my friend
@Jma9528 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott! I sort of just play in different "modes" where I change how I approach the bass. For example, when I play with a pick for heavier rock and punk I try to keep everything consistent and tight. And when I play with my fingers for more liberating and from the gut type of stuff, I throw in the loud/soft hammer on/pull off dynamics. I noticed it's easier for me to use the dynamics with my fingers because I can manipulate the strings with my right hand more.

Or could you do a video on it?? Thanks a lot, ur so awesome!!

Hey Scott! Have you ever heard some of John Wetton (of King Crimson, UK, Asia, etc.) and his bass work? Just curious, because that growly P-bass tone reminded me of some of his live improv work with King Crimson (in '72-'74). If you haven't, look up 'Asbury Park' by King Crimson from their live USA album. Definitely funky.

Great lessons, many thanks. But forgive me, I will be too distracted if I don’t ask, do you advise wearing gloves while playing for any reason? And while you are at it, is that an ultra skinny bass in the background, or a trick of the light?

Scott nice bass , wish my new bass had that bridge , the first bass I bought looked exactly like that but the big name brand that I won't mention couldn't send me a new bass out of the box that wasn't scratched up and I tried 3 times. I had to pay a little more for the standard J bass and it's blue , it's nice but the bridge is cheap .

Hi Scott, I really appreciate your lessons and advice. Just a quick question : you say that most bassists fall into the trap of playing a line in a robotic fashion. How would "sexying it up" with tonal and technical variations work in a studio setting as i understand at recording time straight and simple is best?
@DR-nh6oo2 жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t that still be ‘sexier’, even if a little more difficult to engineer?

+Philross Lewis Depends on what feel you want. If you want a happy feel play a major scale, and vice versa. Try out some and see what you like the most.
I'm actually quite curious as to why you wear the gloves? I personally, can't get my feel right with somethung between my flesh and the strings.
