This was another 1996 classic. '96 was probably the craziest year in hip-hop and R&B history. Every joint that came out that year was bananas!!

The album dropped in late '95 but yes this wasn't released as a single until early '96. For combination of r&b/hip hop I tend to agree with you. Crazy remixes came out that year as well.

Here's my theory! There were so MANY good groups to choose from back in the 90's that one couldn't hear them all before another group of amazing artists came. I listened to Groove Theory as a result of being in the army starting in '93 and surrounded by guys who had come from all across the states and knew of some local talent really early on before they got "big." I'm still catching up on great music from late 80's and 90's as a result. For example I've been going crazy for Hall and Oats 90's music with that Philly soul groove and even Live From Daryl's House. Amazing stuff to catch up with. Fine with me cause the music these days...you know the rest. Boys II Men, HiFive and others were just so big it was easy to overlook bands in their shadow. As they say, timing is everything.

I had the pleasure of meeting Amel L. After Groove Theory played the Georgia Theater back in the 90s. It's a college town, so every now and then back then you'd come to see historic artists perform. Amel, ma'am? You simply have the voice of an Angel. Everytime I hear your voice singing, I fall deeper and deeper in whatever this is? There has never been or will ever be another artist who enraptures any and every one within earshot? Thanks for making this life, as miserable as they want us to think it is, We have you. I don't know why you aren't the biggest star in the world? But it won't matter when you have a voice that's made for heaven? Keep making me come back for more of this lovely abuse. Too much of anything can make you OD. Overdosing on inspiration is never not in fashion. You deserve the best. Keep em coming. There is no competition when you are just being a better you with every album. ** YOU DA PEOPLES CHAMP!

One of my favorite songs ever. This album is a classic. And Amel's voice is a gift.

My Mother always played this album when I was younger and I never knew the name of them until early 2022 and let me tell you, when I found out, I played the whole album out(and still am)! This song in particular is absolutely one of the most beautiful musical creations I've heard throughout my musical life. The vibe, the lyrics, the passion...sets my heart on fire ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

She was in a group called Sweetback. The song: "You will rise" is an absolute treasure. I think you would enjoy that one as well. Happy listening 🎶

@@mimi-qh6ci Thanks did not know that! Also, I'm an illustrator and spoken word artist; I flipped this song to do a tribute for women with drawings, called Women's Time to Shine. Snippet of the song is here if you'd like to listen to it.

When songs had a beginning, middle and end plus a great hook. Miss those days.

One of the dopest Groups of all time!! The flow was just all that! Still bang Groove Theory in 2014-until!! Lord that Bryce Wilson!! Finnneeeee!!! Amel Larrieux has always had that melodic voice! Too bad she's underrated because her music is dope!
