I saw Richie Havens 1980 in Huntington West Virginia. I was only 20 years old. Didn’t know much about him at the time but I fell in love with him then singing here comes the Sun. Saw him again a year before he passed in Anchorage Alaska. What a peaceful loving soul and his music just digs deep deep down. Rest in peace Richie and thank you for all the great music

I spent the night talking to RH after GA played V Festival... incredible man. I was a bit embarrassed when Andy introduced me to him as 'my old boss' (he started off as trombonist in my first band, The Way, along with GA bassist, Jon White, my 'best man'). I wasn't 'starstruck', but I was constantly aware that the bloke in front of me was the one who I'd been watching since we rented Woodstock on VHS in 1982. Let me tell you, 'success' couldn't happen to two nicer blokes than Andy and Tom, who always made me feel at home with the rest of the gang.

Yes, indeed. I was a kid but remember him well - he saved the show. Have appreciated this mega singer since then. An incredible voice and person. He's exquisite with Groove Armada. Much missed.

It really bums me out that Groove Armada didn't see fit to namecheck Richie Havens, who , if I'm remembering correctly, died months later. He was the first performer at the original Woodstock and literally left it at all the on the stage then (long story - google it), as he does here. What gives?
@jamespohl-md2eq Жыл бұрын
Maybe they didn’t name check him here BECAUSE HE HAD ALREADY BEEN ON STAGE FOR “GOING BACK TO MY ROOTS.”
