He did Freedom with so much passion, the wind is still carrying it aloft somewhere today! From an NPR article in 2004, Santana was really, really late - "By that time, Havens had been onstage almost three hours - and still they needed more. "And I thought, 'Gosh, what am I going to do?'" Then he belted out "Freedom," and his electric ad-lib performance set the tone for the next three days. "The word 'freedom' came out of my mouth because this was our real particular freedom," he tells Cox. "We'd finally made it to above ground."

Also caught him a few times in Taos , NM when he would do impromptu appearances for friends there in the summer. He always gave good performances and was always high...like most of the people who were there to watch him. Very interesting guitarist and when he spoke it sounded like he was reading poetry...which in a way he was...speaking poetry that is.
