44 years later, this music remains WAY ahead of its time. Ornette always pushed the envelope. Just amazing group improvisation. Challenging for sure, but so rewarding if you can let it take you where it goes.

Man it's been way too long since I listened to Ornette (i used to religiously). My ears must be rusty cause this is a tough listen. I feel like I'm going crazy.

This is bliss to me. I never quite understood why since it was always with me even as a kid. Feels like home. Thanks Ornette and everyone else involved through the years.

: "The Shape of Jazz to Come" by Ornette Coleman was released in 1959, "Freak Out!" by Frank Zappa was released in 1966. Whatever you were hearing, was most likely done in 1959 or before.

This sounds very unique and weird and I actually enjoy odd playing and odd music. 🎉 The band is obviously a group of professionals and they sound not terrible at all just different and odd at times. I love this concert I find it very unique. The last track does have some annoyance to it but it is very odd and artistic at the same time.

I remember hearing Ornette Coleman in studio (just a CD) with this 2 guitars, 2 drums / 2 bass setup, maybe 15-20 years ago. I was in a state of musical SHOCK. I was familiar with jazz and free jazz since the 80s. BUT. THIS. REQUIRED. SO. MUCH. CONCENTRATION! I was exhausted after 30 seconds or so and needed a break... too much going on at the same time for my poor brain. Now, maybe my brain / ears / mental skills improved since, but this sounds now close to "easy listening" kind of pop music. Maybe stepping out of jazz for a couple of years to dig deep into "contemporary music" helped. Whatever. In the end, as I see it, People like Ornette are useful to Art, making it jumps quantum leaps.
