Blown away by the SG i purchased , can't believe the quality for something that cost $152!

As someone who bought the Grote SG i can attest to it being an unbelievable guitar. I bought it off amazon for $152 tax included , i was looking for a cheap project guitar and had low expectations. But i was completely blown away by the quality of this thing , beautiful paint , no sharp frets and the binding on the neck is perfect. I bought the black sg and honestly the quality is that of a $500-$800 guitar , it's almost as nice as my Epiphone sg 400 Pro. The pickups are not that bad , the tuners are really the only weak point. I ended up putting SD hot rod pickups in and installed Wilkinson locking tuners and now it sounds like an $800 guitar and it's a keeper. I don't know about the quality of their other style guitars , but this was definitely a pleasant surprise and a sleeper of a guitar......

In 2019, I picked up a Glarry GST 'strat' off of Ebay for $50. It arrived IN THE GUITAR BOX! 😱 I was expecting it to be broken for sure. But, it survived! I knew I would have to do some work on it and I wanted some beefier pickups. So, I ordered a $20 'YiBuy' loaded pickguard off of Amazon just after I ordered the Glarry. I also had 2 Fender roller string trees on-hand. When the guitar arrived, I checked it out and it needed 3 frets filed and a neck shim. I got all that done, installed the $20 loaded pickguard - and it's been the MOST reliable Strat I own! It's nice and lightweight and I've matched it against Fenders. I've owned Fender Strats in the past and the Glarry, once setup, fixed, and upgraded, felt and sounded like a lightweight version of them! People told me it would fall apart after a year. 2 years later, it's still as great as it was once I got it fixed up! People underestimate the budget guitars - mostly out of ego and fear of being different. I love my budget guitars. I've been using budget guitars as my main guitars since the late 1970s when I started!

I have a couple of expensive-ish guitars, I am more of a beater guy myself. A good worn RG550 I'll take any day compared to 4k PRS or high end strat. This Grote has me thinking about doing just what you're saying, toss in some better pickups, some tuners and just have another one to kick around with ;)

@@GearZombie I've been upgrading and customizing my budget guitars since the mid 80's when I learned to work on just about every part of them. I did a LOT of pickup swaps and changes to guitars over the decades. It's always a sense of accomplishment to take something that someone calls garbage and outdoing them on their expensive guitars with it! haha! Usually, that was the last time I saw them. One band was the #2 band in the area and we were the #3. They came to watch a practice of ours and a couple shows. We even double-billed with them a couple times and always had a blast. The first time they heard me play with my budget guitar and rig containing 1 tube amp and 2 DOD pedals (Overdrive Plus and EQ), they were stunned! They came up to me during one of the breaks and wanted to see how I was getting my tone. Their lead guitarist smiled at me and shook his head: "How the he** do you do that, man? I don't get it!" Hahaha!

I've owned a LOT of nice guits over the years...but I don't play very much anymore since I'm nearly 70 !!! Sooo the last 3-4 years I've been going cheap...most everything I buy now is sub-$200... I own 3 Grotes and I would put them in the same class as the Squier Bullets and some of the $200 Epiphones...but even more affordable...the craftsmanship is much better then the price tag suggests. It's really just a matter of luck and timing to find them on Amazon...they seem to sell out VERY quickly...

I wanted to hate this review (was expecting some gratuitius ragging on cheap gear). In the end, though, you managed to pull off a respectful and - more importantly - honest assessment. Can't speak to Grote, but *can* highly recommend Monoprice Indios. Same price point; better hardware. A lot of fun for the money.

I got lucky I guess I bought the HSS version and I swapped pickups & Nut, didn’t change tuners or bridge. And it’s in drop C right now. Really solid.

Okay so here's what I'm going to be getting that guitar what kind of pickups do you recommend I get that are cheap you know I want to go no more than $130 for the whole thing if that's possible I know I need a headphone amp you know like I said I'm on disability but I've got to do something because I'm so depressed and I just love that guitar I mean it sounds like what I'm looking for I'm also going to get a guitar tuner with a you know wall mount that's like 6 bucks but the tuner is what kind of tuners would I need you would recommend and what kind of headphone amp would you recommend that's fairly good one that's decent that's good for beginners your channel seems to be the most honest I've seen and I've looked at over 75 already today and your channel just seems to be the best because you show the guitar that I wanted and the reason why we get on Amazon is because for one if I don't like it I can return it which is great and two it's got a good warranty so yeah I know you shop Amazon all the time. I know somebody's not going to give me a guitar so I have to put that out of the way that's you know that's not going to happen especially one like this I wish but it never happens even though I'm permanently disabled whatever but I used to be a drummer in a metal band called after shock And that was in North Carolina you know and I love playing and then we broke up because my lead singer was caught with 2.3 kilos of cocaine in his bag during the show and that was the end of the band that I broke it up cuz I couldn't deal with it so yeah and we were about ready to get signed from a small record company which would have been great but that was it for me. So then I had the car accident and to make a long story short I've been trying to learn things like I learned how to fly a drone which is great it's like a $20 drone but it works You know I learned how to do house repairs and stuff like that and I had to reteach myself a lot of things because the damage done to my left arm is pretty bad and the more that I use it the better they said it's going to get cuz there's rods pins and screws in the left arm but you know because of the damage it was completely shattered from the elbow down to the wrist in fact I lost like 80% of my blood during the accident and you know die twice in the operating table it was in a coma for 7 days and in the hospital for two months rehab for 7 Days physically and then 9 months of home therapy and I'm about 70% of what I'll ever be again I will never be able to work again they said so it sucks being disabled and you only get like $750 a month which is a joke but it is what it is so yeah. And I really don't have any friends or family cuz they all passed away and I just been really getting into these guitar apps like I said below and they're fun but they're stupid honestly cuz it's not like a real guitar.so I decided to look for one and cuz like I said nobody's going to give me anything I realize that you know it's it's funny how people on KZbin get free stuff sent to him and yet I could never get that done cuz I don't go on here to post much because my life is about as boring as you can get okay. I mean I feel like one of the people from The Island of misfit Toys to where you know I was thrown on that island and nobody cares about me nobody wants me around and you know it sucks you know I'm six foot seven 43 years old and I'm permanently disabled and I hate it I downloaded these stupid apps on the phone you know for guitars and they're fun and I just got really into it and then I learned some tricks from the guitar app on the phone and I know a few things that I can do with it but not a lot Curtis Bynon 87 Cobb street New Milford PA,18834

Honestly it's not that bad I mean for a beginner like me I mean I'm looking for a beginner guitar because of this reason My story December 31st 2019 at 5:45 p.m. here in New Milford Pennsylvania on route 29 I was involved and one of the most horrific car crashes at people I've ever seen in their life. I was hit head on at a combined speed of 125 mph at the scene of the crash which I don't remember much anymore I was told that I lost 80% of My blood and that basically during surgery I die twice on the operating table and was brought back I was in surgery for 13 and a half hours. I broke my tibia shattered my fibia and so many places completely destroyed my left arm and had to have rods pins and screws in both legs both knees and my left arm completely rebuilt from The joint to the hand. I spent about a month and a half in the hospital and then I went to physical rehab and I spent another week and then I spent another eight to nine months at home physical therapy. The pain that I went through was there's no words to describe it as whatsoever. I am currently disabled now because of the accident the guy that hit me and was his fault and , unfortunately it would do the Pennsylvania law that if you don't have a certain amount of money you can't collect so my settlement not much at all. I was told that would never walk again or do this and do that and I refuse to accept that I do walk I do drive but I'm at 70% of my life the rest of my whole life I'll be 70%. Meaning that I will be able to run or do physical meaningful activities like I used to. Before that in 2012 my fiance killed herself on October 15th my other dog passed away on December 15th 2012 my mom died January 27th 2013 and then two years later I lost two more people two more relatives two best friends and so on and so on and then my uncle and my aunt passed away and then I had the horrific accident that changed my life. And when you're on disability and don't have a lot you know when you want to learn something you know the only rift I can play was like the one that you did with the jammy wrap that's about the only rift I know and I know a few other chords and a few other songs but it's been a long time so I am definitely a beginner in fact even somebody sent me a free one of those easy guitar kit things that you put on guitar so I could learn more for free so that was nice but don't have a guitar to play yet Curtis Bynon 87 Cobb Street New Milford PA 18834 USA valacbynon@yahoo.com You got the guitar that I really want that thing looks awesome I love the lightning I would make it glow in the dark that would be me but that's the guitar I really want and that's what I'm thinking of and being on disability I'm going to have to get a headphone amp because I really don't care about a man but yeah that's the one I'm thinking about buying that looks just just a habit display would be awesome

Actually, the tuners are "OK". The nuts on each tuner were so loose that I almost could not tune the guitar. They were hard to turn at all! When I changed strings and filed down a couple of high frets, I tightened the nuts and now they feel almost as smooth as good cheap turners and they work OK. After changing the pickups to the cheapest Alnico 5 single coils on eBay, this things plays well and sounds Great! Great GROTE!! NOT GroteEEEEE.

Honestly I like it I think it would be perfect for what I need because you know I just need something to keep me from depression and you know I don't have any gear or any gaming consoles or nothing I mean you know I'm as mainstream as low as you get you know so yeah I mean I guess I would have to buy the pickups which I don't know much about or anything I used to be a drummer in a metal band down south called after shot and you know I played some guitar when I was a kid but it's been a long time and I just need something to try to keep me occupied from going crazy cuz being you know permanently disabled it sucks you know when you have you know your legs shattered your kneecap shine your left arm shattered with metal rods pins and screws and all and yeah no friends no family it really sucks so this is the one I'm thinking about getting I mean I know I have to get a guitar but they're like five bucks headphone and I'll probably be wrong about 20 and the tuner is probably about 10 so I'm probably looking about $100 for the whole thing maybe but I'm considering it because I just want to learn something you know I really do I think it would be a lot of fun and I wish somebody would send me one of these for free but they never do you know it sucks but yeah anyway thank you for your video I finally found one on this guitar I've been looking for and I hope you have a great week Curtis Bynon 87 Cobb street New Milford PA,18834 valacbynon@yahoo.com

Just the fact that they can make a guitar for 79 dollars and make a profit is a miracle. Also, I think that you have a second guitar there. They make much better guitars. Spend money. You wouldn't even get a response from fender or Gibson or any other guitar makers for that price. You are clearly trolling the hell out of this Grote company, and that's not entirely fair. You made all of this happen. Again, the dead internet is real.
@GearZombie2 жыл бұрын
Soooo much wrong with your comment.....You clearly didn't watch the video...... You know the part where I said you can't beat it for $79, or the part where I said it plays almost better than my Vintera Strat.... OR the spend money comment you made on a video that I clearly stated I was searching out the cheapest full size guitar I can find....
All his sarcasm and smart remarks ruins any view a watcher may have. Skip it... it is biased from the start.

I think the only thing bringing this video down is Doug H. in VA…. I even recommended the guitar.. Maybe you need a tighter definition of sarcasm. Example, KZbin needs more dullard saviors like Doug H in VA…. See… sarcasm.

You got a guitar from glarry guitars for free and I tried to request one and they told me that I don't qualify that they're not charitable yet you got one for free and you however don't need it because you have enough guitars so I'm going to let everybody know on KZbin about how you're able to get one for free and I'm not and find out what my results will be I think it's disgusting that you too let's people get items for free that basically don't need them because they have enough money to buy them or they have enough stuff that they just don't need them. And yet people like me who are permanently disabled who don't have hardly any money want to get into playing something that will help them physically mentally and socially and they get completely shut down by companies like this this video is going up today I will be mentioning your name I will be mentioning that company's name and a bunch of other people on KZbin that have completely done the same thing I don't think it's right that you were able to receive that free guitar from that company and yet I can't even get one that's not right.
@GearZombie3 жыл бұрын
Scott, Glarry reached out to me for asking if I would be interested in receiving a unit in return for a review and promotion. The guitar I received from them was in exchange for the work I did for them in content creation. This was not a charitable donation from Glarry but rather a trade of a product for a service. Many companies do this to promote their brand. So essentially I paid for this guitar with my time, content creation and promotion.
