This is the part of the show when Jack Benny "Rodney" plays a contestant to great hilarity - with Irene Tedrow.

Sharp wit and humor scored by 2 of the funniest men in the history of tv and motion picture comedy. No comedy writers needed for these two.! I missed those days of pure clean jokes,ad-libs and improsviing.Real comedians are born not made..

Groucho really wasn't known for his "clean" jokes....

Jack was actually 61 at this time, and when people back then looked old for their ages he looks pretty good for 61

Actually, this is from Groucho's appearance on "THE JACK BENNY PROGRAM", originally telecast live on April 3, 1955. The "set" used for the "quiz show" actually consisted of Groucho's podium [note he's NOT talking into an "NBC" microphone, as this aired on CBS] and the curtain used on Benny's program (at CBS' Television City). And there's no "DeSoto-Plymouth" logo in the rear...Benny's sponsor was American Tobacco's "Lucky Strike".

Benny, in real life, was anything but cheap. He was known to be one of the most generous people in the business.

My pleasure, 'hotun'. As noted, Groucho had one of the few kinescopes existing of this episode, and enjoyed pulling out his 16mm home projector, and showing it to his close friends and acquaintances over the years [along with various risque outtakes from "YOU BET YOUR LIFE"]- however, you had to be invited by Groucho to his house to see it...and ONLY if he wanted you to see it.

At the end of the show, Groucho reappeared with Jack, and asked him WHY he didn't give the correct answer of his real age. He claimed, "Where else can you buy 22 years of life for $3,000?". At the time, Benny was 61 years old.

Back when comedy was actually funny !! The lady I recognize as Mrs. Elkins, Mr. Wilson's antagonist, from the Dennis the Menace series.

Jack Benny is great; too little appreciated today. Johnny Carson "did" him his entire career. His show is running now on cable MeTV.

MeTV is an over-the-air network.

Is Leslie Nielsen narrating? That would make this even better.

Irene Tedrow often played overbearing, shrewish women. But in this, she's rather attractive!
