Great video! Just a suggestion, I modified my poncho liner by threading 550 cord through tape liner at the head and foot ends. It allows for gathering the fabric and having cord to adjust the poncho liner to the hammock making a sort of cocoon. You can cut small holes in the corners and seal the cut fabric with a lighter. You can then thread the 550 cord through using a coat hanger. Best wishes for a better day and thanks for all your informative content!

If you use elastic cord you can run it over your ridge line and still use your bug net.

I've been using woobies for under and over quilts for years. I have always slept hot, so woobies will take me down to the mid 40's easily. They're light and compress well so they're easy to pack. I have several woobies in my gear collection, but two of they have been modified as under and over quilts. Thanks for the video Blackie, and for sharing your thoughts and ideas with us.

Been running the poncho liner underquilt for many years- it’s a multipurpose item that that’s lighter, more compact and offers more function than the modern offerings.. It just makes sense!

Hello Blackie- Good knowledge and usage of a multi-purpose item. Having set-up in the ground, on the ground and above ground- I prefer to be above the ground, even if its just a few inches. Been bit a few times doing that ground stuff. Thanks for another video in this series, as I always look forward to them. You be careful out there in that southern heat- Carry On-

If you turned the Poncho Liner Cross Corner instead you would gain a little more length and still have the other 2 corners to pull over you. If you have a second Poncho Liner you coule use it over the Top for a light wight Blanket.

Great video brother! Ive done this very thing! It works great! Much less bulk than a dedicated underquilt! In general I want an air layer between myself and the underquilt but when it's just on the edge of underquilt temps, it doesn't make that much difference!!!

very true most time i am really just trying to slow the heat loss a bit if the temps drop to where i really need to hold the heat i will set it tighter to hold more

A true woodsman... Blackie knows his craft and is so good at spatial relations he always fins good camera angles and when he moves the camera he adjusts it once and its perfect the first time. That's a videographer with years of experience, not just a great woodsman.

I wonder how much warmth a person could add if they added an emergency space blanket in between the liner and hammock. Somewhat like a ranger roll.

When you are in the hammock you can tie the two sides of the poncho liner together. You have a tie on each side of the poncho liner, making a cocoon.

Great information Sir! The newer poncho liners zip up like a sleeping bag and have two zipper pulls so I can open the foot end and pull it over me in my hammock like a sleeve. I'm out here in the Sonoran Desert and it's too hot to camp right now so I can't wait till it starts to cool off a bit.

Hi, can I ask about something that bothers me for some time? 1 I want to make my sleeping bag warmer using a wool blanket - is it better to cover the whole outside of sleeping bag or to wrap myself in the blanket before going into the sleeping bag? which way gives me more warmth and why? or it doesn't make any difference? 2 I saw a video of carrying tomahawk head separately and attaching the handle in the field, the handle was straight and head was attached (sliding) from the bottom to top. it was attached without the wedge like it's in my axe. Is it possible to do that for regular hand axe head, would it work? ( small axe, 400gr)
@BLACKIETHOMAS
@BLACKIETHOMAS Жыл бұрын
1 it is better to wrap outside the inside of the bag will bind up on you and you will not be able to shift and move around in the night plus its pockets of trapped warm air around you that helps keep you warm but wrapping the blanket outside your just helping to keep the warmth you have created from getting away. 2 a regular axe head is wedged down from the top of the handle and will slide back off when you swing it unless it is attached some way a tomahawk is friction fit of the heat up the handle and the very top of the handle is too big to fit thru the eye so the harder you swing the tighter the head gets on the handle

Why not instead use it on the inside as a regular sleeping bag? What's the advantage to having it underneath? Excellent info in all your videos, by the way.
@BLACKIETHOMAS

in a hammock you have to put it under the hammock if you put in inside you will crush in down and not get warmth from it

I’ve done this for years. I usually use a tarp under the set up is there’s heavy rain expected. I’ve also used the net hammock as a gear storage area for inclement weather camps.
