I forgot some information on the cart path video so have included that here. It's not surprising I forgot my script making a video in front of a patio full of people in the clubhouse.
Oh to be a good presenter!

This series of videos about the correct way to interpret the rules has been truly excellent. Looking forward to what comes next.

Thankyou. I don't know what comes next. I might see a video or some golf on TV to give me an idea. Let's see if the US Open throws anything up to talk about. Next tuesday I'm in the studio hitting balls at an imaginary green.

Spot on! That's why we all need to learn the basics of The Rules of Golf, and where and when they can help us! It is somewhat ironic that, if in the scenario you quote, your ball had embedded next to the bunker, you wouldn't be able to end up on the green as the ball would have to be dropped, and come to rest, in the general area!!!

Over the years I've known many people try and impose a half arsed rule upon me that learning them is good for your own score. What makes me laugh is the number of club officials who think you have to play 10 holes to be the winner of matchplay if your opponent doesn't turn up. One said I had to play 1 hole. Another said all I had to do was tee off and I'd won. One time I was told I was obliged to wait half an hour for an opponent and if they did turn up I would be 1 up on the 2nd tee. Clueless. Plugged ball is a drop plus a clublength.

@@thehairygolfer Isn't the problem that they have to try to cover every eventuality in such a way that it should be clear what the intention is. If there were just a loose set of rules every one would have their own version wouldn't they? Keep swinging. Ron

@@ParkinsonsWalks I think we could play to the original 13 rules of golf. A single line and no sub sections for each rule. Could be fun.

Hi Simon, great anecdote, I bet you enjoyed writing that email. Thinking about it, now I know why my Dad had a twenty foot long driver in his bag!! These are great ideas for videos, well done!! All the best

David, I've got plenty about that competition secretary. He really didn't know the rules of golf at all. How do you get that job and not have a clue? A 20 foot driver? What a great idea!

I did find it odd he thought I had to play over the bunker. It's GUR. Nearest point of relief not nearer the hole. I do remember him saying it wasn't right I was in a bunker and then that changed into a putt. I did say something like - when you stick a GUR sign in it, it is no longer a bunker. It's just a part of the golf course I'm not supposed to play from.

It might be helpful if you state the rule that allows an additional club length of roll from your relief area. Just in case someone who watches this video gets pulled up on it in the future, at least they know which rule they are arguing about.

I find the online rule book very difficult to navigate. They have made it worse and even less likely for people to look things up. It's a pain.

Ive never heard that about the ball rolling within another club length. Ive seen on tv a few times where its rolled back into the hazzard and has been a re-drop. Also, how many drops do you take if it rolls outsode of the extra club length or back into the hazzard before you can place it?

You drop it twice and then place where if hit the ground first. The Pros do things differently. You and I would drop the ball so it stayed within the area. It's in our nature to try and only drop the ball once so we don't drop right up to the line. Pros will drop as close as they can to the line in the hope it bounces forward and then a second time and then they get to have a very gentle place of the ball. They are using the rules to get the best lie they can. We don't do that, we just want to get on with the game. I wonder why Pros take 5 and half hours for a 2 ball?

Rule 16.1. I’m still not sure about this. Like many I’ve always thought it’s nearest relief away from the flag. You may need to draw it and do a video to show it!
