Here we are again. Examining a number. Why does nobody talk about breaking 93 or 84? It's always the hard numbers.

Good advice Simon. Well done. I have broken 80 only 3 times so I found what you had to say was very relevant. Our back nine is tougher; the last three holes are the three lowest rated.

It's strange how that happens, you get all your shots at the end. At The Herefordshire I don't get a shot until the 6th and then I get 3 shots from the 14th to the 17th. It must mess with your mind being perhaps over handicap and then catching up at the end when you finally get your shots. One the tougher mental challenges.

Loving your calm demeanor and yogic approach. Concentrating on the now and influencing the current shot not dwelling on previous shots we can not change. Thanks Simon

Lee, I've lost my mind on the course, I've thrown a club in disgust. It never improved my score funnily. 79 on par 70 is 9 bogies and 9 pars. Which is what I'm going to video on sunday.

I shot 90 today in the wind, it was crazy how the ball was affected. I usually shoot around 82 or so, my best ever was 76 in 2019 at my usual course.

Don't ask me how to play in the wind, I'm clueless. I start with good intentions, swing easy etc but it goes down the toilet very quickly. 76 is a good knock. It's days like that that drives me.

Excellent video and some excellent golf with some great scoring, and sensible course management. What I particularly liked is your acceptance of bogeys, even when trying to break 80. Instead of treating them as a negative, you didn't waste the energy "beating yourself up about bogey", just went on to the next hole more determined to par it! (That's a "note to self", as I have a tendency to dwell on such negatives!!!!). Overall, there's a lot that we can all learn from your approach to the job in hand, particularly your course management strategy as, its all about missing in the right place, and not about not missing at all (as that is unlikely to happen!).
@thehairygolfer
@thehairygolfer 4 ай бұрын
Well if you're going to shoot 79 on a par 72. That is 7 over. You make 2 birdies so you will have 9 bogies in that 79. You will bogey half the course and they will not be distrubuted evenly. Negative thoughts leads to the next shot being a bad one. You put yourself under so much pressure it's not going to work.

@@thehairygolfer I had a dreadful round today in the club championship. It always amazes me how things go wrong in the worst possible way in medal. I think it may be because we are too cautious compared to regular play.

@@davidwalters313 I haven't bothered with the club championship since about 2015. We went out in handicap order on saturday and I had a 4 over and in 4th place. On sunday we went out in score order and there was no cut. The guy who shot 125 on saturday went out first and had another 125. I was in the next to last group and it was 5 and half hours. Instead of sticking to a routine so many players get slower and slower and out of your routine you play worse. I haven't bothered since. I can't play golf at that speed.

@@davidwalters313 I tried explaining you had to have a cut but the committee wouldn't listen so I didn't play again. The Herefordshire play theirs in one day. Their 2 big championships are 36 holes in a day. Even if I had a 36 hole battery I wouldn't do it. Needless to say their 2 biggest tournaments have very few entries. Golf clubs are strange at times.

More thought provoking stuff. I tend to agree with an awful lot of what you say. Having a game plan is definitely a big help to scoring well and the more I play and learn the more I realise that when I'm not sure, erring on the Conservative side is always the best play. Was 20 over on Saturday, had 2 x 3 putt bogeys on the front 9 and started the back 9 with a snowman and a double 🤯 before a birdie and a string of pars coming in. Played 9 from the front tees last night and was 6 over with 2 doubles 😂
@thehairygolfer
@thehairygolfer 4 ай бұрын
What I mean about having a game plan is sticking to what you normally do even if the last hole was a disaster. You just make a double and you come to a hole that you mormally hit 3 wood on but now you're hitting driver as hard as you can to get a birdie. I've tried it, everybody has tried it and it simply ends in yet another disaster. Plus I always say you have no idea what you will do today so let it happen. If today is a 98 there really isn't going to be anything we can do about that. But in the middle of a bad round we can suddenly tear off 6 pars - a third of the course with no dropped shots. If we can stay out of our own way.
@robertcourt8593

Do you ever get more "agressive" when you're playing well? Our 13th is around 320 yards, the fairway pinches In around 200 yards and has a ditch either side of the fairway, but not through it. On Saturday I was driving it really well and put it straight through the gap which is about 30 yards. Last night I hit it well but got a bad kick and it went in the ditch. I don't normally hit driver on that hole. I did on Saturday because I was really confident, last night I wasn't so confident and paid the price.

Great vlog Simon. Course management is so important in golf whether you’re trying to hit 100, 90 or even 80. It’s something I’m always trying to focus on. Do you play a lot of solo golf? I know you do when filming but there is a reason why I’m asking. I used to play a lot of solo golf and could hit lower consistent scores compared to now but I currently play with golf buddies and in competitions every week. I need to get a little more selfish with my time I think and play some solo golf again and practice putting and chipping at the course (not the range) and I’m sure I will see my scores lower compared to now.

Hello Paul, I've always played a lot of solo golf. I have Aspergers and it's just easier socially to be on my own. I do have some close friends but it takes a long time to make them. Because over the years I have been driven to get better any round outside of a competative round is a serious practice round. I will work hard on holes that I struggle on. If I hit 2 shots I go and play the bad shot. I'm just very competative which does not make for good conversation. In fact I always say I can talk or play golf but can't do both. That's true, if I'm social on the course my score goes down the toilet.

@@thehairygolfer Thank you for being so open about your Aspergers condition Simon, I never realised. I’m a little embarrassed about my standard of golf right now. I started playing in my early 40’s and I’m 63 next month. I feel I should be around a 12 to 15 handicapper having had lessons from a PGA pro for over 22 years. Sadly I lost him to cancer last December. He could fix any problem I had in a few minutes and I relied on him so much. He was a good friend as well as a golf coach and I’ve not been able to go to another pro due to sentimental reasons but I know I have to change that. I’m currently a 21.6 WHS and I feel my game has deteriorated since not playing on my own, when you can challenge yourself and take extra shots to improve ones game. I admire you Simon as you have a great standard of game. I would love you to do a break 100 vlog just to help me selfishly 😃. Take care of yourself Simon and look forward to your next vlog.

@@paulhorrocks4868 There is a vast array of people with Aspergers. From extreme to mild. I find it hard to make friends, I don't always know where the line in the sand is with regard to what you can and cannot say and I sometimes get panic attacks in rooms full of people and simply have to leave. But it's fine. As a teenager I really struggled at a time when you are supposed to 'belong' to groups of people. My Pro moved away many years ago, I've been quite a few since then. I then found a guy who was brilliant for my game and then he got fired from the club and drives a van now. I've been taught by a few lemons who wanted to change everything. I always think of golf as 50/50 with regards to practice and play. Plus I've always been lucky to have the free time to do so. Friday and saturday evenings you will find me practicing and not out with the lads drinking. That is where the standard comes from. Break 100? That's easy. Just stay out of the shite and throw your long clubs away.
