Ground water table at 0.5 meters depth below ground surface

Excavation is being made for sub surface investigation (an trial pit method) with the depth of 0.5 m the water table was observed and some times the water table meets with the ground surface level. This conditions occur in the regions of heavy rainfall and costal regins. As it was observed in mangaluru in Karnataka.
Water table, also called Groundwater Table, upper level of an underground surface in which the soil or rocks are permanently saturated with water. The bwater table separates the groundwater zone that lies below it from the capillary fringe, or zone of aeration, that lies above it.
