I had a possibly stupid idea probably wouldn't do much in ng+ cycles, but on the first playthrough it might be hilarious. Using the new ant mutation, grab a bunch of fire ant eggs and drop em in a boss room. Wait for em to hatch and trigger the boss. Instant chaos

I used the blaster of the moldy matriarch (IBM weapon) and IBM armor. I would mainly just run circles around the middle of the area and use the fire ant shield to block any attacks and reduce its resistance. For mutations, I used apex predator, because it allows you to get life steal in the area, and if it triggers multiple times, you can make a ring in the area so you constantly life steal. I also used the mutations for max health, max stamina, and hyperstamina. There are probably more efficient ways, but I found that method easiest, because it allows basically any trinket you feel like works best with the strategy, and is pretty simple. Note: The Mantis is resistant against explosive damage, so there are definitely better options, but I personally prefer this method because of how simple it is to use.

My Ng Mantis build: I call it "Wrangler" Main weapon: Fire Ant Staff Armor: Eyepatch, Mantis Chestplate, Aphid Slippers Mutations: Whittle Wizard, The quickness, Buff Lungs, Cardio Fan, Coup De Gras. Trinket: Anything with the quickness tbh Strat: Circle the center trunk tbh and try and get her stuck on the eggs. Notes: If executed properly she wont land a single hit. (aside from roar) NEVER BLOCK! Unless its the regular side slash. I reccomend atleast one heal incase she has venom. *I am speed* 🚘 End fight in abt 2 minutes Start the fight behind the eggs and typically ger first 3 moves will be... "Jump", "Hitting the floor (Ranged), and then the raising her arms move"

Yesterday I befriended the black ant queen and received a new repair tool. This is worth it. This repair tool repairs multiple buildings at once and not only that, but if you level it up to lvl 5 you can now use the repair glue on it.

I'm currently farming the Mantis in NG+1, on medium, and with 1 toast and the Wall Mount buff, I can kill it 24 times in those 15 mins, giving me 14 fusion crystals. However I use most of the Raw Science I get to Dupe kebabs to summon the boss, as well as Sticky Boss Sauce, Liquid Rage, Beefy Green Machine, and Perfect Toasts. The rest is used to dupe Fusion Crystals. It does require a good trinket, but once you have it, it's a breeze. Here's my setup: ~~~~~~ [Weapon/Armor] - Salt Morning Star lv 15 (got it from 10 to 15 just from killing the Mantis) - Fire Ant Shield - Fire Ant Helmet (Sleek) - Chest of The Mother Demon (Sleek) - Fire Ant Legplates (Sleek) (Yes, I know the Corrosion effect from the Fire Ant Shield and Armor don't stack, but with these 3, it ensures that the effect is applied as quickly as possible and stays active for more than 90% of the fight's duration, since the % chance to apply the effect is rather low) [Trinket] Science Cone with: - +Boss Damage - Salt Damage Up Best - + Critical Hit Chance (As long as you have +Boss/Mantis Damage and Salt Damage Up Best, you're set. The third effect is a bonus if you happen to get a good one.) [Mutations] - Barbarian - Coup de Grass - Trapper PEEP.R Lv2 - Buff Lungs - Cardio Fan [Meal/Smoothies] - Perfect Toast - Beefy Green Machine to heal when I get hit - Sticky Boss Sauce - Sticky Liquid Rage - Bandages to heal from the Bleed effect ~~~~~~ With this setup, I can manage 6 kills every 4 mins (Sticky Smoothies duration), including switching Mutation preset to get Dissection Expert, and Trinket to have Loot Luck, and switching back. I throw away any Mantis Chunk, Claw and Trinket (the Claw one), and keep the Science Crinkles and Waffles, as well as the Mantis Heads, to make sure I can keep looting. To maximize the number of kills per Toast, and minimize the waste of healing items, I reload the last auto-save (which happens everytime you start a boss fight, but brings you back before activation upon loading) whenever the Mantis spawns with the Venom or Defense Up effect. During the fight, keep smacking the Mantis and block her attacks, except for the one that has her smash the ground 3 times, emitting a shockwave, in which case you have to step back ASAP, then run back towards her immediately afted the 3rd smash. Keep an eye on your Stamina, and your block gauge, which resets when she screams. As long as you stay close to her, she won't jump on you. She might jump away sometimes, but the stun from your attacks, and the critical hits resetting her attacks, keeps her fairly static for easy and constant hits. The more times you can kill her per Toast/Smoothies effect duration, the more Raw Science you can keep. This can be done even with a lv 9 Morning Star. As you get Oozes to make Fusion crystals and upgrade your weapon, the kills get faster, from about 2 kills every 4 mins (Sticky Smoothie duration) at lv 9, to 5-6 kills every 4 mins at lv 15. Hopefully this helps some people, as once you upgrade your weapons, NG+ becomes almost a joke, and the O.R.C. Javamatic Defense Event goes from frustating to... well, less frustrating.

If you're talking about the Mantis, the effect should be different upon reloading last save. If you're actually talking about the Mant, in the Lab, then I'm pretty sure you're stuck with it having the Sour effect. I might be wrong, but I think the effects are picked at the moment the enemy is spawned in, same as its loot. Since the Mantis is spawned in when you start the fight, the effect can be different each time you reload. The Mant, on the other hand, is spawned in whenever you get close to it for the first time. Though I might be wrong, as I said, because the Mant is untargetable/unattackable from above the ceiling, through the hole. It might mean that it is spawned in as soon as you enter the room through the hole.

@@808nemec honestly, I did struggle at first. But as soon as you get a trinket with 2 specific effects, the fight becomes a wacking party for you, and a massacre for the Mantis. I think I posted a comment on this video about my setup. I'm currently farming the Mantis for the Oozes to make fusion crystals. I can kill her 6 times every 4 mins, so about 24 times in 15 mins. This gives me 24 normal Oozes (2 Fusion Crystals worth), and 24 Mantis Oozes (12 Fusion Crystals worth). Obviously, this is the optimal result. If I consider the time I take to reload the occasional Venom/Defense Up infused Mantis, and the time to run back out of the lair to restock, I'd say I can get 72 kills per hour (45 mins of fighting, 15 mins of anything else). This is 43 Fusion Crystals per hour, at an easily achievable constant rate. So basically, if I get everything I need beforehand, like the Kebabs, Bandages, Smoothies and Toasts, I can upgrade a weapon from lv 9 to 15 in about 2.5 hours. I have killed her over 200 times so far, and planning to get to 400-500, stacking Crystals for some powerful weapons in NG+2 and above.

I don't know if u would see this but i just got an infused dagger with both salty attack and salty damage best, so i was wondering if that would be the best weapon to upgrade for either this mantis fight or the infused wasp queen?

I find the Salty Mace with Salt Damage Up Best, and +Mantis/Boss Damage to be the best. Most weapons you can get with a Salt Upgrade will also deal another type of damage (chopping, slashing, stabbing, busting), which the Mantis has a resistance against, reducing your damage output. The Morning Star, on the other hand, only deals Salt damage, effectively exploiting the Mantis' weakness while avoiding any resistance. Salt Damage Up Best increases Salt damage by 50%, and +Mantis/Boss Damage by 30%, for a total a 80% increase. The +Salty Attack effect deals a flat 15 damage per hit, and can be increased by effects. So with the +50% from Salt Damage Up Best, it would mean an extra 22.5 damage per hit, 67.5 damage per 3 hit combo. The Morning Star's base damage is 55/55/69 per hit, for a total of 179 per 3 hit combo. A lv9 one has its damage increased by 65% for a total of 295 per 3 hit. So +Salty Attack dealing 45 damage, without any boost, is only about a 15% increase in Damage, and doesn't scale up with the weapon's damage when it's upgraded. With this in mind, at lv 13, even Salt Damage Up Minor (+10%) is better than +Salty Attack (resulting in a 9.5% increase in damage output). Instead of the latter, you could use +Mantis/Boss Damage (best one), Salt Damage Up Major (+25%), +Critical Hit Chance (+5% chance, even higher output depending on Crit Damage %) or Crit Damage Up Best (+60%) for better results, even with the Morning Star at lv9.

Also, while it's true that the dagger is faster, its damage is decreased because it deals Slashing Damage. The dagger Mutation only applies a Bleed effect to the enemy (about 20 damage per second at rank 3), while the Club one increases the damage by 25% at rank 3. If you get an Infused Club or Axe with Salt Damage Up Best and another effect I mentioned in the other reply, then it would be better than the Dagger. Club is 2 handed, and Axe is 1 handed, allowing for a shield to be equipped. Otherwise, I'd stick with the Morning Star.

@@cultofsquidward4100 I don't know how hard the Mantis and Wasp Queens are in NG+4, but if you can't make it through the whole fight without dying, then you might want to consider the Axe so you can equip a shield. The Axe mutation (Chopper) reduces the enemies' defense, which would almost negate the damage reduction from the shield. Maybe try fighting them with another weapon to get the feel for it, so you can make an enlightened decision and prevent you from farming for 1 weapon when you would end up needing the other. Paraly5er here recommends the club, and I know he's good at Perfect Parrying. If you are, then yes, totally aim for the club. But I'm not (and also playing on console), so I'll be rocking the Axe with Shield. It all comes down to your ability to Perfect Parry. When you get the weapon you're looking for, let us know how it's doing for you, to help me get mentally ready for NG+4 😅 I'm farming Cones with specific effects in NG+1 because I don't trust myself without them hahaha

Use the tree to circle them around it, focus on getting rid of the babies. When the momma does an attack that stops her moving like a jump or slam then try and draw the children away to deal damage to them

Patience is key, try to split the baby from the main mantis and have 2 people focus on getting rid of it while the other holds the mantis and use the tree trunk to cut line of sight and avoid attacks
