"BS or not"? I dont think you gave any answers and only talked about superficial things like the shape and flexibility of the shoe. There is equipment out there that can measure if you are actually grounded or not.

Interesting that their running shoe has an 8mm drop. I wonder why they didn't want to have zero drop for runners and be under Topo's 16mm ST4 or the 20mm and over of an Altra to distinguish their product with their rivals. There are people in running forums online that aren't into the whole minimalist shoe world but like the Topo's 4mm drop and higher stack height, so there might be a larger market there. Maybe they are trying to hedge their bets with a regular shoe + grounding to test the market, but I wonder is there much of a crossover between those two worlds. I would have imagined anyone into grounding also prefers to be lower to the ground.

Hey there, Alex from Bahé here, I hope you don’t mind me replying directly. Your observations are very astute. We’re a small brand who just launched last year so we have to build slowly. We launched with the ‘conversional’ runner and had a great reaction from people who prefer that kind of shoe but had a lot of requests for a more barefoot version. So this one is still a runner, just a different type. The kind of hybrid you mentioned is in our minds for the future as we build the range so the input is very welcome!

Putting their marketing BS to ones side I actually really like these shoes. Im glad that there are more barefoot style shoes now which are harder to tell are barefoot shoes. Honestly I stopped wearing them after a couple of months so can’t say. I used to have plantar fasciitis issues and it was making a come back (no idea if it was to do with the cushioning in these shoes or not) but knowing how bad it was before, I got straight back into my Primus lites and haven’t looked back since. They’d be a really good transitional shoe (getting people used to zero drop) but if you’ve been wearing barefoot shoes for a long time, they wouldn’t be my first choice

For everyday walking around on easy flat surfaces I agree but it's nice to have a bit of cushion for running, for long distance hiking on rocky ground, or for days when feet are a bit tired from doing the above in barefoot shoes.

As with many things, it can be bad if it gets inside you but generally graphene would need to be ingested or inhaled. I know I like barefoot shoes but even I haven't taken it that far yet 😆

@@TheBarefootStrengthProject The soles of the feet are like literal sponges though. They absorb everything they come in contact with. Even if wearing socks I would feel like the graphene counteracts any good grounding benefits of these shoes. I'm not risking it.

Hi Clem, I think grounding/ earthing is probably legit, although difficult to say whether it's earthing or simply being out in nature that gives me the sense of wellbeing I get from barefoot hiking (true barefoot contact with the earth). I reckon a grounding plug connected to a wired insole is unlikely to do anything, same with grounding mats there's been no studies showing any benefits as far as I'm aware, the evidence for actual grounding is mostly anecdotal so grounding mats even more sketchy. The shoe itself though, does it have a bit of a midsole as well as the insole or is it like Vivo with no midsole?
@bahe_
@bahe_ Жыл бұрын
Hi there, Alex here from Bahé. I hope you don’t mind me responding! Just to let you know, our conductivity is based on the technology used for safety shoes that need to be grounded and therefore there are industry standards. We test our shoes to show they have conductivity in the same range as human skin. So truly being barefoot is best, but when that’s not possible our shoes are the next best thing. Regarding the effectiveness of being grounded using other methods than being barefoot, actually most studies are done using mats as it’s easy to have them plugged in or not and therefore creating fair comparisons - there is a reasonable amount of published literature on this. For example people sleeping on mats either plugged in or not (i.e. grounded or non-grounded). And that really ties in with your great point, just being outside has been shown to bring a range of benefits which as reducing stress, attention restoration and lower perceived effort. Basically, being out in nature is a winner! Our aim is to try and enhance that where possible. 🙌 About the shoe. It has a 4mm outsole (1.5mm with 2.5mm lugs) a 6mm midsole and 3mm removable footbed, so a little more than Vivo.
@christianlangfield9303
@christianlangfield9303 Жыл бұрын
@bahe_ hi, thanks for the reply. There's very few brands out there making foot shaped, flexible shoes with a small amount of midsole, it tends to be either totally non-cushioned like Vivo (barring the insole) or shoes like Altra that are too squishy. So I'm interested from that standpoint. Regarding earthing mats and also the conductivity of your shoes, can you point me to any studies that have shown a connection (pun intended) between earthing using that method and health benefits such as reduced inflammation, I haven't managed to find any. I've read Clint Ober's works on grounding so am fairly convinced and open to learning more but don't know of any peer reviewed actual studies beyond anecdote.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. We agree there seemed to be a gap in the market and people who’ve tested them so far have been very positive. Of course we understand everyone has different preferences, especially when going down the more minimal route, but we’re excited to have them out there now based on the feedback so far.

Bit of both probably! With my background I’m very evidence based so I’d love to see more ACTUAL research hours (not anecdotal/dr.google studies) put into it, but for the time being that seems to be all there is to go on. I enjoyed wearing them and can definitely see the use case for having them as a transitionary shoe or, doing what I did, using them on long travel days etc. I see Alex from Bahe has jumped into the comments so hopefully you have the technical answer you need on midsole. The non-technical is it lands squarely in the middle of vivo and altra and as always - excellent commenting, it’s great to have you in the community 👌🏽👌🏽

I've no experience with these shoes, but I have with the grounding mats you mentioned. Since I've started sleeping on a grounding mat, I've noticed a big difference to my quality of sleep, less aches overnight and a general boost in my health, with no other changes made to my life other than the mat. Plus, if I stop using it, I return to how I previously was. For me, grounding is most definitely legit. I am going to get these shoes to see if this helps too (plus love a good barefoot shoe)

I do not believe that rubber soles are conductive. You need leather soles. I have custom mocassins made by the Indians with Buffalo leather soles. I use these for grounding.
@bahe_
@bahe_ Жыл бұрын
Hi there, Alex here from Bahé. You'e correct, normal rubber soles are insulators. We have created a special formulation that makes the rubber fully conductive. They are tested and have the same conductivity as human skin so would perform better than leather soles, especially if the leather was dry. Hope that helps!

They look awfully thick for "barefoot" shoes. On their website it says the shoes have a 10mm stack (with zero drop), and are described as "barefoot style.* 10mm is pretty thick for "barefoot." In addition, they are NOT FOR WIDE FEET. Foot-shaped does not equal wide (Altra, I'm looking at you!), and the Bahe website says: "Our Recharge shoes are designed to offer a traditional fit and do not specifically cater to wide feet. We suggest trying them on indoors and returning them if they do not fit." Anyone who is wearing barefoot shoes and/or Correct Toes or similar spacers may and probably will have issues with these shoes being too narrow. In the photos they just look really narrow -- which is good news for people with truly narrow feet -- but remember, the widest part of the foot is supposed to be the TOES, not the ball of the foot. As a female with a 2E width across the ball since I'm still working on un-scrunching my toes from years of too-narrow shoes, I can tell that these Bahe shoes would be way too narrow in the toe box area. Also, please learn to balance audio levels (all too common KZbin shortcoming). The spoken parts are super quiet while the music parts are way too loud; have to keep raising and lowering the volume. It's an easy fix in something like DaVinci Resolve. :)

Hi there, this is Alex from Bahé. Thanks for the feedback, always welcome. Just to clarify, the style Clem trialed is called Revive and this is our wider fitting style. Recharge, the style you referenced, is our traditional fitting shoe so there is a different in fit. We’ve been wearing Revive with toe spacers and it’s fine, though we understand everybody’s feet vary. We’ve trialed them with lots of people used to wearing this kind of shoe or no shoes and have had great feedback on the width. Hope that all helps!

Hello! I see Alex from Bahe has jumped into the comments so hopefully he’s been able to clear some specifics up for you, having gotten hands on with these shoes (revive) I can attest to them being pretty wide, perhaps a case of mistaken identity on the website? Also re: thickness, for reference a Nike Freerun (about as minimal as Nike get) is about 14mm in the sole, vivo about 4-6mm so this hovers in a rather nice middle ground. Appreciate the insight on audio levels! I was editing as I was travelling around and think the headphones were sub-par, apologies and hopefully it doesn’t distract too much from the info!
