This amazing song was actually written by the Swedish guest percussionist André Ferrari way back. Michael League picked it up while in college and played it with an early incarnation of Snarky Puppy and the rest as they say is history.

@@TroyKing777 Andrew is spot on. One tip here is that the tempo is very fast and mostly implied/hidden, meaning no one is really playing it explicitly, so you have to find it yourself. Note that it may be much faster than you initially think it is.

@@andrewxu3602 Yes very true, good call. You can also kind of hear it from the Väsen guy with the traditional Swedish instrument as well. His opening phrase is basically the first 14 beats of the 23, but he omits a couple notes and then drops away for a bit so it's harder to follow for counting purposes.

Yeah it's 7/16 + 7/16 + 9/16 (that's how you'd group it if you were to write a chart or 23/16 with dotted barlines to help). Then it stays in 23/16 but goes into more of a 5/4 + 3/16 vibe or 4/4 + 7/16 also would work.

Probably, imo, some Väsen fans (or Swedish trad fans, or wider European trad fans) might do... because: 1) This setting with Snarky is sadly kinda killing some deep and subtle sides of the trad music expressions Väsen always show brilliantly, which you could find by listening to Väsen-only sounds. Such as the thick tone by the nyckelharpa alone, such as the ornamentations on each melody notes, such as the deepness just three string gears could bring out... Väsen in English means 'Beings' and the instrument in the begining is a traditional Swedish folk music instrument called "Nyckelharpa" in English 'Key harp' the Keyes being the ones on the instruments neck.

Seriously. I understand why they used "I Asked" for the main release (good contrast in an album with a lot of more upbeat tunes), but this was easily the better of the 2 Becca tunes they recorded. Her expression at the end of the tune really just screamed "I cannot believe how fucking good this came out." I was in the studio for the recording (they used the take I was there for and I am not for a moment surprised it was the best take of the weekend), but the rest of the world that didn't buy the dvd needs to see/hear that shit.

There were 5 extra tunes recorded that didn't make the main release. They eventually released a deluxe version to various streaming services that had audio for all the tracks, but unless you bought the DVD or were fortunate enough like me to be one of the studio audience these tunes were not nearly as widely available. Which is a damn shame, because 2 of my favorite tunes from the entire recording (this and Becca Stevens' second tune "Be Still," which I assume/hope will also be dropping within the next week or 2) were kept as bonus tracks for various reasons.
