The creativity of Larnell's part is mind-blowing. He's somehow keeping the groove as tight as ever while also filling non-stop and never doing anything remotely the same twice all over the kit. His mind operates on a different level. I would have been out of phrases in 30 seconds, but he's speaking a whole dissertation on the fly in his own language. And its fucking beautiful.

Michael League seems so unassuming, but his work ethic must be off the charts. He writes, arranges and produces most of their songs, and has to schedule tours and sessions depending on who's available and has to decide which of his guys should be featured as soloists, because they are ALL killers! He hardly ever features himself, although he is quietly one of the best bassists in the game...

I want to lose my shit as a percussionist every time I watch Larnell play, but writing a composition where someone can go off like that and it fits within the song naturally is something else AFTER a gnarly guitar solo is something else man. The writing and execution is so next level.

Larnell's grooves are just disgustingly great. I'm always impressed by his sense of time as well as his ability to play very technical rhythms and changes with such groove. Hey, T. Grissom , it is in fact a snare. I came across an article he did about this recording and it had a pic of his set up in which I could see it was simply a 14x8 inch metal snare. Interesting fact about these recordings: The only reason Sput didn't play with the group was because he had an expired passport and couldn't travel to the Netherlands where the recording took place. They called L. Lewis about three days prior and he showed up. Prior to the call, he only knew three of the songs and learned the rest in a couple days.

As a musician (drummer) myself, I can't begin to tell you what a thrill seeing this video has given me. The performance of the band, as a whole, on this piece was extraordinary, to say the least.

Bob Lanzetti perfectly matching the melody line of the song for one single instant of his solo makes this song for me

When the band comes in behind the building guitar and drums at 3:44, that makes me stop and watch every single damn time. So strong.

Snarky Puppy are their own league. Right there at the top. These guys....guys, are the next "contemporary jazz masters". Each of them individually...are all gonna be peak Louis Armstrong/Miles Davis/Marcus Miller tier (just to drop 2-3 names that spans many generations and styles of jazz you know). Plus...they're OBVIOUSLY madd Hiphop, generalizing over the group as an ensemble (of course...but I'd say 75% are loool...they either listen and have listened a lot of Hiphop music, or are fully into/ARE Hiphop and/or in some way or another...it has influenced them as persons ,as much as musicians. Word is Bond!).

favorite part is those dudes in the booth at 6:02 when the full jam comes back in head banging on split parts of the beat, the groove has got everyone confused but still happy
