The creativity of Larnell's part is mind-blowing. He's somehow keeping the groove as tight as ever while also filling non-stop and never doing anything remotely the same twice all over the kit. His mind operates on a different level. I would have been out of phrases in 30 seconds, but he's speaking a whole dissertation on the fly in his own language. And its fucking beautiful.

Michael League seems so unassuming, but his work ethic must be off the charts. He writes, arranges and produces most of their songs, and has to schedule tours and sessions depending on who's available and has to decide which of his guys should be featured as soloists, because they are ALL killers! He hardly ever features himself, although he is quietly one of the best bassists in the game...

Sure the drums were awesome but that guitar solo was a complete masterpiece IMO. The transitions made it feel like a real melodic storey and built ever so slightly reaching it's peak with great intensity and dynamic entrance to the bridge to set it back up before the drum solo. Larnell's grooves are just disgustingly great. I'm always impressed by his sense of time as well as his ability to play very technical rhythms and changes with such groove. Got to meet him backstage at PASIC last year; he's very polite and nice and was very humble when I talked him briefly. Great musician and person :)

I can't remember when was the last time I felt such joy as I did towards the end of this performance! I was literally in ecstasy for a moment. I couldn't help but jump up and down and let random noises come out of my mouth (it's night time and I felt like screaming, and could barely hold it in). I felt like I was listening to music for the first time ever, and I'm a professional musician for god's sake! And on top of everything, I'm normally a really really calm person, so this truly caught me by surprise, and I'm friggin' happy it did. Jesus Christ, thank you Snarky Puppy, thank you Larnell Lewis! Thank you for making me feel like a little child again!

The drummers name is Larnel Louis people. He is an amazing drummer who performed at this years jazz festival with snarky puppy. He is not their actual drummer but whenever snarky puppy wants to showcase their skills they bring out larnel louis. One of the best drummers i know

Bluetooth is the one way you do NOT plug more than 1 device into anything.. it sux so hard... You need kind of a bluetooth hub to do that.. But I guess it might create a blackhole when you turn on the bluetooth hub with 100 devices.

I love the haunted guitar solo. The song entitled "What About Me" meaning you are searching what are you worth for, the haunted guitar solo is like you are searching for yourself. How good is it at 5:53 the bass player just gives the nod and Larnell shifts into top gear, I can and do watch that guy play for hours at a time. What a seriously great group of musicians. And that guitar solo was from another planet. Brilliant. Knowing Larnell had 2 hours on a plane ride over to learn the entire set. What a very special talent he is. I'd give anything just to have 10% of his talent.

Yeah I totally agree. It's jazz fusion I'm sure but it sounds really progressive to me. I certain elements reminded me of DT (back when they were totally awesome a long time ago haha) I miss old DT so bad!

+raimesey I think Jazz Fusion and Progressive Rock are natural bedfellows. They share the same concepts and if you look at the history of fusion, you had Mahavishnu Orchestra and Billy Cobham, Tommy Bolin etc blending jazz with furious rock.

raimesey If you listen to Porcupine Tree at all, Steven Wilsons solo album "The Raven That Refused To Sing" has songs that are a really good mix of old school prog and jazz fusion but with a modern edge. It's very accessible like most stuff Wilson does.

Hey, T. Grissom , it is in fact a snare. I came across an article he did about this recording and it had a pic of his set up in which I could see it was simply a 14x8 inch metal snare. Interesting fact about these recordings: The only reason Sput didn't play with the group was because he had an expired passport and couldn't travel to the Netherlands where the recording took place. They called L. Lewis about three days prior and he showed up. Prior to the call, he only knew three of the songs and learned the rest in a couple days.

Snarky Puppy are their own league. Right there at the top. These guys....guys, are the next "contemporary jazz masters". Each of them individually...are all gonna be peak Louis Armstrong/Miles Davis/Marcus Miller tier (just to drop 2-3 names that spans many generations and styles of jazz you know). Plus...they're OBVIOUSLY madd Hiphop, generalizing over the group as an ensemble (of course...but I'd say 75% are loool...they either listen and have listened a lot of Hiphop music, or are fully into/ARE Hiphop and/or in some way or another...it has influenced them as persons ,as much as musicians. Word is Bond!).
