I have a Macadamia nut tree in Sacramento. We have had it for 6 years and got it from Lowe's. So far it is growing. We have had one branch break off due to weight and it seems to be top heavy.
@TropicalGardenGuy2 жыл бұрын
They make nice landscape trees, One year I was frustrated by the minimal nuts I was getting so I dumped a full box of sul po mag into the mulch and watered it in… I was rewarded with a lot of nuts the next year

Hi Jeff, great video and excited to see a follow up video on progress as it grows. Do you think a macadamia nut would work for zone 8B? I am in Northern Georgia.

Wow great tropical looking garden. Can you grow the reddish leaf plant (tiki cane or something like that) that's in the pot on the right side of the path? I mean plant it in the ground.
@TropicalGardenGuy2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can! The red Ti plants on the left have been in ground for 5 years

I bought a Mac from Lowes a few years after we moved into our house. It did ok for about a year and then got nailed by a 27 degree night. Hadn’t thought to use something like a beach umbrella to serve as a quick canopy. Were you able to crack the nuts? I was surrounded by macadamias when I was living in Hilo, but those suckers don’t crack easily. They made black walnuts look easy to shell.
@TropicalGardenGuy2 жыл бұрын
Yea the Beaumont Macs I had toughened up the olde they got. The nuts were much easier to crack than the ones I ate from hawaii
@jared82682 жыл бұрын
@@TropicalGardenGuy Pretty sure mine was a Beaumont, too. Our local Lowes and Home Depots have been pretty adventurous this year with the plants they’ve ordered. I’ve seen at least 5 different tropical guava cultivars instead of the usual tropical white, tropical pink and red Malaysian you normally see in these parts. I’ve also seen Kentia, Foxtail, Bismarck and Bamboo palms. If I see a macadamia, maybe I’ll give it another try.
@montypalmer45562 жыл бұрын
macadamia integrifolia vs tetraphylla. The Beaumont is a hybrid of the two types. The H10 is the integrifolia which is less recommended for hotter dryer colder areas. Cate and Beaumont have been the most planted macadamia in the western US. Cate is tetraphylla where the Beaumont is a cross between the two. Grafted macadamia seems hard to acquire.

Thanks for the info. Its an experiment so let’s see how it goes. I’ll do follow up videos

Hi Jeff, I live in Stockton, CA. Did you have to build a greenhouse around your first macadamia nut tree in the winter?
@TropicalGardenGuy2 жыл бұрын
No, It was mild the first 3 years it was in ground. If it had gotten below 28f, I woulda put a beach umbrella up over it to keep the frost off it

You should have got rid of the truck instead. Lmao. I planted my 2nd Mac tree a few weeks ago. The ist wasn't looking too wonderful so I saw one at mimosa la almost 5ft tall for 35$ when I bought my achacha. I couldn't pass that deal. Overwintered it and planted this print. I believe H-10 is an Australian variety. Anyway do you know if it's air-layer or seedling since I didn't see any graft union? Mine are Cate macadamia seedling, a California originated variety .
