I just did this with Hydrangeas successfully for the first time. But instead of the watering every 4 hours, I put the pots in large clear containers to create a greenhouse and then didn't have to water once for a month because the moisture stayed. But I only did a few plants, this wouldn't be ideal for the amounts you are doing. My next project is Dahlias lol... when I find some Dahlias.

I recently bought 20+ varieties from a well known company with good reviews. I got a ton of terrible tubers that were so damaged that I know they wouldn't work. Some had 5 clusters and out of them, I could only save 2 or 3 tiny tubers. I was very disappointed to say the least. 3 varieties came in totally rotted. You can bet I am gonna try this to make it worth the investment.

We pre sprout our tubers and take cuttings from the tuber shoots to pot up and grow on. We're pinching our dahlias back at the moment (here in New Zealand) and doing the same thing with the pinched material. Hadn't thought of using side shoots so thanks for the great tip.

If you want to dramatically increase your strike rate, make sure those those world's-dullest-pruners get razor sharp, or use an actual sterile razor. No excuse for sloppy, frustrating, tearing cuts that increase cutting losses. Take pride in your tools young man, and keep up the good work!

I’m not sure how you prep your flower stems when you take them to market, but it seems like maybe there would be some side shoots on some of them that you could take off and propagate as well is that a possibility?

Your right! There is. It is just a lot going on in full season with lack of hands to be cutting and bunching 2,500-3,000 a week.

what is your propagation success rate? Most of the folks showing cuttings sterilize continually and seem very fussy with clean environment? Thanks.

wow I see the result of the careless approach to propagation in your more recent videos. Your entire dahlia operation collapsed due to disease and infestation. Sorry for you. You might consider updating this video so beginners like me don't follow poor advice.
