There are easily 10 vegetablea that you can grow well, with just water in a jar, uaing cuttings. I grow green onions in a jar, as for me it's not worth using up so much of my AG space when the yield after using 6 pods is equal to a single bunch of green onions - that costs only $1.50 at the market. I would have loved to hear how you felt about the taste of the thicker green onions/scallions. I love all of your expirements - keep up the great work! We really appreciate it.

I added nutrients in both Aerogardens growing with cuttings as well as from seeds. I haven't added nutrients in other 2 methods. Growing from cuttings work for 1-2 times. If we add nutrients, they will continue to grow longer.

Really informative. Based on this video, I will only use the cuttings as they look so much healthier and stronger than the others. I would like to grow green onions in three of my Pods and some other vegetables in the other six pods. What is compatible to grow with green onions? I only have one hydroponic system and that is an Aerogarden Bounty. Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you.

Lettuce and tomatoes are the only two, that I tested, go well with green onions. Please note that the root part of the onion gets slimy over the period. So, we need to change the water and wash the green onion roots periodically. It never hurt the plants but the water gets some hard smell that I don't like.

@@aerogardenexperiments Do you ever trim you AG plant roots? I see some people that do, as their school of thought is that the roots are over-growing, as they're "looking" for the traditional nutrients they get from the dirt. Thoughts?

I know nothing about planting/growing. All my green onion cuttings died about 3 weeks after I put them in my aerogarden. Guessing it's because I just plopped them in the plant holders and they 'drowned'? Just got some seeds yesterday to try out. I'll have to buy a bundle of green onions sometime and try supporting them like you did with foil.
@aerogardenexperiments2 жыл бұрын
yeah, drowning could be the issue. We also need to change the water frequently with green onions.
@Francois_Dupont11 ай бұрын
this is amazing. i think it is better to put nutrition in the water because the plant cannot grow so much if there is no food for the plant to grow.

Love the video! Do you think it would be viable to grow the green onion clipping pods in the same Aerogarden with my other pods (tomatoes, peppers, etc)? I read in the comments below that the water needs to be changed often and i'm not sure if I can do that while growing other pods
@aerogardenexperiments2 жыл бұрын
No, green onions leaves some slimy residue in the water. If we don't clean it up, it leaves bad smell. So, I prefer not to mix it with other plants.

Hello there, I am just wondering sir, what is the ph of the onions for starting and also the ppm, thank you and God bless
@aerogardenexperiments2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I haven't tested it myself but I gathered that the pH is 6.0-6.7 and ppm is 980-1260 for Onions and the same works for green onions as well.
@villanuevaruth212 жыл бұрын
@@aerogardenexperiments Thank you sir for that reply, I have germinate 4 kinds of onions, will try to do hydroponic and soil also, hoping that it will be like yours in the right lights, and the ppm and ph, thanks, God bless.
@danieldc4175 Жыл бұрын
Do they grow faster from soil? How often do you have to refill the water in the aerogarden? Does the aerogarden take care of the ph level?
@aerogardenexperiments Жыл бұрын
yeah, they definitely have grown faster than soil. Aerogarden nutrients come with pH buffer but gets imbalanced after a while. That's why Aerogarden recommends changing water every 30 days. I don't change every 30 days but I change water every 60 days. It is working fine so far.
@villanuevaruth212 жыл бұрын

@gailkarlovsky80233 жыл бұрын
So the green onions from cuttings in the aerogarden had the plant food added but the cuttings in the jar and the cream cheese container did not? Wonder how much the nutrition was responsible for the superior growth in the aerogarden versus the other two cutting methods. Did you try outside the aerogarden with nutrients?
@aerogardenexperiments3 жыл бұрын
It is the combination of AG lights and the AG nutrients produced solid green onions. I tried growing the cuttings outside the AG and feeding AG nutrients but I didn't get the same results.

The water getting slimy is a concern, especially with just plain water. Is this happening in the aerogarden also? I would not waste space in an aerogarden growing Onions. Instead, I would grow cuttings in opaque containers with holes cut out for netpods (Kratky method). Also, I'd use fertilizer in the water and leave an air gap for the roots.
@aerogardenexperiments3 жыл бұрын
yeah, I see slimy in Aerogarden as well. It didn't create any issues though. I am with you that it's waste of resources dedicating an Aerogarden for Green Onions. They grow pretty easy in any container.

green onions grow even in the water from cutting, but not like yours very big
@aerogardenexperiments2 жыл бұрын
yeah, if we just place the cuttings in plain water, the green onions use the energy from the bulb. There isn't a lot of energy inthe bulb for long run. That's why they don't grow as string as they grew in Aerogarden with lights and nutrition.
