No matter what choices I make I will find a way to help support your channel either through a donation or a purchase from your site. I am considering making my own lights LED strips extruded aluminum I'm going to check out your site right now and see if there's anything that I can possibly use. Thanks Matt, I checked out your channel and subscribed. I'm going to watch your videos on hydro pepper production. I'm looking for advice on the best nutrient solution for our upcoming grow test with chili plants. Any advice on what to use for good flavor and yield?
@MattGarver6 жыл бұрын
Personally, I use Dyna-Gro Grow 7-9-5, which is a complete one-part macro/micro nutrient with pH stabilizer, and cal-mag. While I have not used them personally, the Masterblend, General Hydroponics, Maxi Grow, and other nutrients seem to do well too. Regarding flavor, a mature chili from a flavorful variety is a good start. Soil grown plants, when water stressed can produce some of the best flavors. For quicker results indoors, growing in rockwool blocks or small containers helps. Topping right after the 3rd or 4th leaf node helps to change the shape of the plant. You want a short and wide plant, with a good canopy. Also, trimming off the leaves under that massive canopy helps. Otherwise those under canopy leaves that are not getting light are just wasting the plants energy. In addition to small pots and effective shaping, using a wet/dry cycle with extended dry times will stress the roots without killing them. This is often another trigger to start the flowering and fruiting process. Don't be afraid of trying to switch peppers to flowering sooner than thought, as pepper plants will continue to increase in canopy size even after starting to fruit. Dryer air and more air circulation, combined with more interspacing between plants, helps push peppers toward fruiting too.

Mirrors don't work as good as simple Matt white paint,sorry bro
@ericm79944 жыл бұрын
the problem with mirrors is that the light has to pass through the glass to hit the reflective material. then pass through the glass to get back out to the plant. so it absorbs too much of the PAR value you need. good ol tin foil is cheap and works wonders. (the shiny side) .
@ericm79944 жыл бұрын
@Trousersnake Pliskin your names awesome by the way... escape from new york was fkin dope as fuck. i use tin foil and my plants get way more light then they need anyways.. so i dont feel the need to try and maximize the reflective area like with mylar or paint... tin foil is great. and that whole "hotspot" crud is a myth

Great video Would reflective material be much help for the sides for the veg stage when plants are small?, as all my leaves receive light from above 2 x 600 watt MH for 18 plants grown a week apart on stands to keep the canopy even and to save space as well as having a continuous grow I don't see how light on the edges of the leaves would help? I harvest one plant per week 9 in flower, also if the light is powerful enough to penetrate the canopy, how does side reflective help, as there is none separating the plants in the middle of the tent I have 18 vegging, for 18 weeks to get bigger plants and keep with the 9 week flowering cycle 9 week veg is not enough I have a tent for the flowering stage, to separate the light cycle from the vegging plants that are in the same room it has 2 x 1,000 watt HPS Thank you

I was thinking the same thing for us people that like to DYI n make ok our setup as affordable as possible but at the same time when I do something I like to do it right the first time hence making it an ideal good set up but affordable as well with out having to make changes during your plants cycle which could in turn do more harm than good! Very curious about the aluminum foil readings and what you have to say about it! I've been told it's not as good as the other reflective material n that it has more of a chance burning your plants

The thicker one reflects more IR back so its better for ceilings of the room if you don't want to be the only house in the snowstorm with a clear roof. And its tougher/longer lasting, less rip/tear prone and if its backed with white, its cleanable. Thin mylar doesn't last, it goes see through over time becomes brittle and its noisy, thick stuff looks the same after 10 years
