Grow SWEET POTATOES in WOOD Chips!

My best crop of sweet potatoes was grown this way. It truly works! The yields were staggering and I was so thankful because I was able to use the freshly mulched space to grow food. Try it!

When you harvest the sweet potatoes, are they mostly in the wood chips or are you digging them out of the underlying soil?

Ben, now that you have a house with Gabriella, plz start a house garden with a food forest with every kind of fruit trees and plants. I am Believing the house u have is owned by u. So is a suggestion. We get to see ur food forest from the beginning. By the way this gardening video is awesome. 👍.

Have you been to the Sustainable Future Center in South Knoxville? They use wood chips in their gardens, and also have chickens to help break down the compost. They actually have a local Maker's Market the first Saturday of each month and give tours of the center.

I’ll be ready to put my sweet potatoes slips in the ground on June 1. Is that an ok time to plant them in East TN? How long until they would be ready to harvest?

Hi Ryan. June 1 may be a bit late. If you can get them in earlier I would. But June 1 might be okay.Depends on Fall weather. Harvest time depends on days to maturity. Most of the time they finish up right at the end of the summer.

I am planning on planting white potatoes and sweet potatoes in fence towers this year. Can I use wood chips like this to layer with my compost?

On our first raised beds we did not use landscape fabric. The voles had a hay day. 😡 So we used it under the others. Any suggestions in a situation like that?

If you have Vole issues I would use a netting and not a fabric. You want the worms and such to be able to go up and down. Does that help?

I’ve seen people use 1/4” or 1/2” steal mesh on the bottom of their beds. Keeps out bigger things but let’s in worms.

You’ll need to water fairly regularly to keep it moist.
