I’ve just been inspired to start learning how to use a bō and I’m so glad I found your channel! As a beginner I can’t yet justify spending money on a proper staff so I went into the basement just to see what I could find and what do you know, first thing saw in my dad’s workshop was a painter’s pole! I took the roller part off and that pole is what I’m using for now. You explain things really well and go at a very easy-to-follow pace, thank you for what you do

Thank you for this, sensei. I’m about to have shoulder replacement surgery again. It’s pretty painful to do these, but I can’t wait to get healed up so I can start back. Thank you again.

Great I think this is great because when you use strictly text during the video I keeps you from paying as much attention as saying it aloud

Got 8, swap, fingers down eyes closed. But the butterfly breaks my brain. Also overwrist doesn't work. Could it be that i'm using a jo instead of bo ?
@pasquinilli
@pasquinilli 11 ай бұрын
Yes. The Jo might be too light. Try slowing it down. You can still get it with the Jo, it’s a lot harder though. The good news is that if you can get it with the Jo, it’s easier with the Bo! Thanks

*These spinning techniques are so "easy" once you get it (minus the practice and skill needed to preform the moves masterfully as demonstrated in the video, of course), and so frustrating before you do!*

Wrist roll. I would never train this, as it is a "disarm" moment.

I train it for strength and flexibility. I Wouldn’t recommend it in a self defense or combat situation.

@@pasquinilli Thank you for your reply. I try to keep all training as "real" as possible, so that I don't get the wrong muscle memory .

@@mordi2537 You still don't get it, I'm afraid... These exercises increase your dexterity, make you more confortable handling the staff and therefore improve your mastery over your weapon. But you do you, as they say!
