Watch along to see some of the aloe vera plants in our garden, tips for harvesting, and how we process and turn fresh aloe vera into a soil drench to feed freshly transplanted seedlings. This video was made to accompany a blogpost that includes more details about how to grow aloe, an explanation of its beneficial properties, and also discusses use for foliar spray, cloning, and facial moisturizer. Check it out!

I've been using this fertilizer since one year ago to protect the roots of tomatoes, peppers and eggplants (solanaceae plants) They became more resistant against fungus. Thanks for this tips, Deanna.

I fillet the leaves similar to the method you use, except I put the flatter part of the leaf face down on the cutting board and run the knife along, skimming just above the leaf. It's a little safer and easier. I was on a kick a couple of years ago adding the gel to my green smoothies on a daily basis. Being a Floridian and an outdoorsman, I frequently use the leaf as a treatment for cuts, burns, scrapes, etc. I found that leaving the back part of the leaf on (just removing the front part of the leaf only) made it much easier to secure under a bandage or gauze wrap. The gel by itself is much too slippery, but keeping part of the leaf on makes it manageable. Great video (and I love the Pink Floyd music playing in the background!) Subscribed.

Thank you for this great video and for sharing your beautiful garden! I have my first Aloe plant and am looking for particular super soil blend. This was so much more tho! I need to upsize her pot and place in my indoor garden. Should I place her in the veg room or flower room. I'm thinking there's enough canopy in flower to keep indirect light? Also dont know if veg lights have enough spectrum? My primary use will be for cloning, fertilizer and foliar spray. Thanks again!

I'm honestly not sure since we grow our cannabis and aloe both primarily outdoors. Maybe get a second aloe and do a little fun side-by-side experiment with one in each?

Thank you very much for your video on Aloe! I have some plants outside, that look like Aloe, but they are a bit smaller, but a ton of them. A lot of Aloe I see looks HUGE, but yours are a bit medium sized, and not gigantic. IT seems there are many varieties of Aloe, so I'm wondering if it matters what kind? From what I read there is a specific variety that people use, and is more studied, but I wonder if they all would work the same/similar? I was starting to buy some aloe powder, but it seems that I can use this, but I wonder it make sure it's useful. THere is gel inside, and the flowers are red, similar to the pictures I see. I thought it was just a diffferent succulent at first, but I Think it is in fact an aloe plant. It's smaller, but green and has the white dots on it. Thank you for any advice/help on this!
@HomesteadandChill

There are a lot of different varieties of aloe, the one that is most healing is aloe barbadensis. They can really get to a decently large size and they produce pups that grow out from the main plant. But not sure what type of aloe you have, however, aloe barbadensis is the one you want.
@AlvinKazu
@AlvinKazu Жыл бұрын
@@HomesteadandChill Thank you for your reply. I'm not sure what kind I have, `it was here when we purchased the home, but the pups propagate similar to` what I've seen in other videos, and they now occupy a rather large area, basically all bunched up together, but rather tiny, maybe 2`-3 feet across at the biggest, and like 1-2 feet tall. They are similar green/light green with white spots, flower into bunches of red flowers that shoot from the stalk, and the plant cuts open with gel that looks exactly the same. Would this indicate the right type, or could it still be a variety of aloe? It makes me wonder if other aloe varieties produce the gel as well? I also am curious if they only studied this one type of aloe, similar to how they mostly only studied Rockweed Seaweed` as being the most beneficial for gardening, while there are other seaweeds that are also beneficial. Overall, since my plants have the Gel, I assume it should provide benefits for my plants and wouldn't hurt to use? Since I would love to use this, since the aloe powder for sale is pricey. I especially love how soapy it got when you made yours! The Perfect, natural, wetting agent! I see others using Jadam Wetting Solution`, as well as Yucca. Thank you for all of your help!
@HomesteadandChill
@HomesteadandChill Жыл бұрын
@@AlvinKazu I think white spots are common on the aloe while they are still young but go away as the plant matures. If the aloe has a good amount of gel on the inside, similar to the one in the video, I think you are good to go to use it as a wetting agent in the garden. Might as well mix some up and see if there is a good amount of saponins within it. Good luck!

@@HomesteadandChill Thank you. I initially thought it was aloe when i first saw it years ago, but then saw laoe grew much bigger so just thought i twas another succulent type.. now I'm thinking it is some type of aloe, especially with the gel. I will definitely check it out and report back my findings! I think i'm good to go, and will just check out how my plants react ot it. I assume that your plants react in some way after getting some aloe?

As long as you let the yellow sap surpass before blending the taste or flavor that is off putting with Aloe won't be left in your blender? It's the yellow part that gives off the bad smell and taste? Or do you have a blender you use that's different for food?

Hey! Can you please help? I'm quite confused aloe vera is antibacterial and antifungal so that would mean that I would hurt mycorrhizae by feeding this to a plant is that right? also Some people prefer to purposefully ferment this stuff for about a week what's the purpose of that if you say that it's losing its value over time?

Bret Everhart- I've read/seen others say 4hrs..24hrs.. but, I Do know the gel/whole leaves can be frozen for later use. I have a bag in frzr of some older leaves that I didn't want to eat, but perfect for this use. So I take a few out at next watering session and put in blender, dilute, feed plants.
