Growing Avocado Trees from Seed - 7 Month Update In this video, I'll provide an update on my Avocado Saplings that I've grown from seed that are now just about 7 months old as I started them on 1/13/20. I'll also be transplanting them as some are getting root-bound (which is a good sign since many were struggling with soil mites in the last update!) I have 7 plants growing in this series - 3 survivors from the toothpick and water method, and 4 started from the direct sowing into soil method. I'll keep you updated on their progress monthly until they perish or produce (fingers crossed). Tips for growing avocado trees: Avocado trees really don't prefer full sun all day and especially not 100 degree temperatures so It's been tough planning where he should stay during the days - preferably a partial sun/shady area. Avocado trees do enjoy slightly acidic soil that is well draining. A PH of 6.0 - 6.5 is ideal and having sandy soil conditions also helps. They also are heavy nitrogen feeders so a monthly feeding should be used after they reach a few feet tall. Your soil should consist of a mixture of Limestone, crushed granite and sandy loam. Make sure it is well-draining to prevent root rot. I hope you will enjoy this new video and the series. I’m so glad to see you back.! I’ve just recently transplanted my young avocado tree into a bigger pot. I’ll be uploading an update on my AVOCADO TREE soon! I had some high temps that caused leaf sun damage but once I placed it away from direct sunlight, it started putting on new growth. It’s looking good and happy now.

My husband grew an avocado tree from seed as a teenager! Super interesting. My tomatoes struggled this year, so I'm gonna spend my afternoon planting some radishes and arugula for a fall harvest!

And it does well enough to stay alive during winter?
@vaguerabbit41624 жыл бұрын
@@michaelkovacev6108 sorta, yeah. It's in a pot inside. So to thrive it really needs to go in the ground, but winters are too cold for that. So it's mostly just a rather tall houseplant

Hi Rob! Really enjoying your videos. I want to ask you one question though. What happens if you put the avocado seed in the water with the toothpick method but with the wrong side pointing down and leave it for a couple of days? Is it a problem, do I have to try with a new seed or do I just flip it and wait for the seed to sprout?

Any suggestions for yellowing leaves? My avocado from seed is about 1-1/2 years old now, it's in a 4 gal. pot and kept outdoors during the summer; indoors in winter. I fertilize it occasionally with a balanced fertilizer and I've given it a liquid nitrogen 5-1-1 feed when the other fertilizer didn't seem to have any effect. I'm wondering if it's an iron deficiency. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hey Rob, I have an avocado tree it's 4 months old. But both sides of the seeds broke of 😩. Now I only have the tree itself with te roots. I have taped both sides of the seeds to keep them in place. I don't kwow what this wil do to my tree 😢. Do you have any ideas what can happen if both sides of the seed break of? Will it survive or do I need to let it go? I hope you or someone else have an answer or experience with an avocado tree growing without the seed.

I've tried the toothpick method and drop in water method. I've yet to sprout any avocados. I'm not sure but I have a suspicion there's some type of anti rooting process they've done to the avocados in my area. I'm 0 for 6 now. Why is it so difficult?

Ever try to grow pistachio trees? You're in a perfect climate for it primarily they grow in California Arizona New Mexico but I bet you would have luck. The pistachio tree lives 300 years it takes 7 to 10 years before it starts producing nuts.

Hey Rob, I am doing the toothpick in water method right now but when seeing the progress of the other ones, should I give up the water toothpick method and put them into soil now?
@NMW804 жыл бұрын
I would wait until the seed germinates and then transplant it. Just keep changing the water so it doesn’t go stagnant.
@NMW804 жыл бұрын
But you can totally put it in soil for sure as long as it warm, has moisture in the soil it will sprout eventually. It’s fun watching the seed crack and the root grow a bit too in the water lol but yeah it’s not needed that’s for sure.
