I do live pretty close to Georgia but still living in Florida frosts are not really expected. Especially if you get the ones they grow in the Mexican highlands. Summer or fall hurricanes are much more likely.

Haha i fear a giant sunshade wouldn't quite do it for me here Jeff 😉 ( unless i bought one of those restaurant ones with built in heat lamps 😂 )

I am planning on planting over 100 avocado trees in the north of Sardinia, where the winter gets under 10 degree Celsius in winter and close to 40 in summer. I don’t the umbrellas will stand up to the Sardinia mistrel winds. A different version that does the same job maybe. Cable system with sliding cloth.

Thank you. I planted a new avocado last spring, and it has been flourishing. I'm terrified of the winter. I'm going to try the umbrella. I'll let you know how it goes. What are your thoughts on stringing some Christmas tree lights up on the trunk? Could that be additional help?

I dont string lights, but Ive heard it helps

Jeff, would you recommend putting down a layer of compost on the soil around palm trees, going into winter?

The monster graft on main tree is surrounded by mex grande so it’s got the best possible position to be protected

Which commercial avocado varieties are best for hot climates? Here the temperature reaches 40 to 45 degrees
@TropicalGardenGuy9 ай бұрын
I see 40c regularly in my garden. But it’s dry and cools off to 20c most nights. Not sure about commercial varieties but all of the varieties I grow do fine here in summer.

My Gwen is 7-8 ft tall in one season planted this may grew 5 ft and very difficult to protect?
@TropicalGardenGuy9 ай бұрын
once they get that big, i find that they are hard to protect.

@@TropicalGardenGuyif they are this tall, what would you recommend to protect for a 25-28 degree freeze

What do you do on a cold, windy, and raining night? Remove the canopy and pray? lol
@TropicalGardenGuy9 ай бұрын
We get plenty of those nights. Id leave in place . If it’s rainy , then no cold temp worries.
@marisaphoenix18939 ай бұрын
If its windy or rainy, there will be no frost, therefore logically no cover required. Pretty obvious really and no prayer’s required either 🤷🏽♀️

@@marisaphoenix1893 A windy day in Winter will dry out and suck the life out of your sensitive trees.
@TropicalGardenGuy9 ай бұрын
I guess it depends on where you live. Wr are quite humid in winter, wind usually means rain is coming or has just ended.
