For the many comments on propagating bamboo from culm (stem) cuttings; among large growing bamboos, this works only for some tropical clumpers such as Bambusa vulgaris. Most of the large running bamboos such as Phyllostachys can only be reliably propagated by rhizome divisions or FRESH seed. Bamboo seeds lose viability very quickly after harvest.

The particular bamboo in the video looks more like a Dendrocalamus variety, which also propagate readily from culm and branch cuttings.
@motherlandbot68373 жыл бұрын
@@fatbuddhaboo Yes. Dendrocalamus, Bambusa, and Gigantochloa spp. often have root primordia on their lowest culm nodes, and this enables relatively easy establishment from stem cuttings. I've occasionally seen these on Phyllostachys edulis and P. nigra 'Henon', but these 2 are very difficult to near impossible to propagate from culm cuttings. You might be able to air layer Phyllostachys culms with basal node root primordia.

@motherlandbot68373 жыл бұрын
These tropical/subtropical clumping bamboos spread slowly, and aren't invasive unless you are growing giant clumpers in a small space. By comparison, many running bamboos can easily spread 20ft to 40 ft in a single season in a hot summer climate. I've seen P. bissetti and P. aureosulcata spread 15ft the summer and fall after they were planted as 8 to 10" rhizome divisions without top growth.
