Same here! I've tried different varieties, different timing, different soils. Nothing works 🤨 They germinate fine, grow 2 or 3 inches, most of the leaves turn red and that's it. No more growth, no tap root, nothing. Last year I left them in all winter. The leaves grew a bit more, but that's all.

@@TheRipeTomatoFarms I’m in southern NH, zone 5b. I’ve tried spring and summer, but the latest is a fall crop in a raised bed. We have slugs so maybe that would affect the low number of surviving seedlings, but why they just sit there is a mystery to me. It’s lows in the 50d, highs in the 70s/80s right now

Good info. I use a site called Still Tasty to determine storage options for vegetables. That site says beets only store 2 weeks in the fridge. I don't doubt what you said in the video but do you have any idea why they would say that?
@patriciatinkey2677 Жыл бұрын
Lots of commercially grown Beets are put through an automated wash process that makes them Look more tasty in the store, but actually shortens their shelf life. Remember that Jeff said not to wash them!
@TheRipeTomatoFarms Жыл бұрын
Its exactly as patricia said....washing them just ruins the storage process. Keep them dry, remove the greens, and just brush off excess dirt. They store for a LONG time.

@TheRipeTomatoFarms11 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching! For beets, I'd go containers... You can grow unlimited amounts in large containers. Then, find a crop the maggots don't like and cycle them through for a couple of seasons. Once clear, move back to beets. Also grow cover crops over winter to prevent egg laying
