Trying to grow a 2500lb Giant Pumpkin.

EPISODE 5 - June 10th - June 19th
June is a time of vine growth. As the plant gets bigger I train the vines to fill up the patch. At the base of each leaf roots grow, so to encourage that I apply a rooting hormone called CloneX, add a mix of Mycorrhizae fungi (Wallace WOW), Bone Meal, Azos, and Rootshield Plus, and then cover the vines with soil. Then I repeat that every few days. Pollinations are next.

Before coming to your chancel I would have never known this was such a delicate and intentional process. Very interesting!

🧡 indeed! My husband and I decided we were grow pumpkins. Yeah, it was definitely a lot of work just for us he went out there and trimmed and then lifted the vines and moved them away from the other vines they had room to grow and then trimmed off Areas that were not helping the growth of the larger pumpkin went out there every few days and live in Minneapolis and have a very small yard. We did get some pumpkins from it and didn’t get a chance to do it this year but I’m definitely to do it next year. I am not using the pumpkin as a purée but I should because I do like pumpkin butter and it’s so expensive it’s like $15 a small jar which were thinking for jack-o’-lanterns. Are you going to try to grow pumpkins 🎃next year?

It's 0340 and I'm watching pumpkin growing videos, oh dear. Lovely footage but some commentary would be great. What time of the year is each video, what fertiliser, how do you choose which tendril gets to live or die, when to earth up, when do you decide the plant is big enough? And more questions. Hope your final video will include a mass of details regarding input costs etc and final harvest weights etc.

I love to have a video of you talking and telling your story about how you got into this and what does soil is like and where are you go to do competitions, is it worth it? Do you love it? How much does it cost for one seed and how can I get one that produces a very large pumpkin?

I remember reading in your season recap that you use Clonex rooting gel. Do you feel like it makes a difference? I thought it was for promoting roots in places roots don't normally form. That would be cool if you could paint the whole vine with it!

I started using it a few years ago and grew my PB and so haven't cut it out since. In one of my friends diaries (M.D.) he showed a comparison between treated and untreated and there was a lot more root branching on the treated. I also heard that painting on the whole vine can be undesirable as it seems to increase node spacing. It's a lot of work but I think it's worth it
