Kinda love how no matter how advanced the techniques get it all comes back to digging in the dirt with your hands and hoping for good weather

The next big leap is artificial lighting. Ensuring optimal light intensity over the whole growth cycle. Oh while we are at it, grow it in a warehouse, control and filter the air flow. Also, grow it hydroponically. No need for that pesky dirt. Although I'm not sure about that one; some vegetables tend to grow too quickly and burst before fully ripe.

What I gather is one of these patches is one “giant” plant. The leaves are trained evenly outwards and they’re all putting their focused energy on one huge fruit. You hear giant pumpkin and you only think about the fruits, but you could fit multiple regular-sized pumpkin plants here in the same area it takes to grow one singular giant plant here. That one widespread far reaching plant, all working to grow one giant pumpkin is comparable to all the work and attention you put into making sure everything is optimal. Good job.

Even if it was edible it probably wouldn't taste good. Those things are tasty when small/young. If you let it overgrow it is good for seeds and for breaking records, not really for consumption. I wouldn't bother about it though, next to 120 billion pounds of food wasted in the US every year it is nothing.
