I just cleared up my asparagus patch.. I planted 8 or 10 2 year old crowns last spring they grew nicely.. I left them alone.. then in fall they resprouted..and I got a whole second flush of them that I let grow out. Im not seeing any sign of them yet. Im going to fertilize and top off with some compost and keep watching! Should be able to eat a few spears this year!

Nothing better than homegrown asparagus! Mine came early this year and a few batches froze. So many good spears right now coming on!

I just bought some crowns and fixing to go plant them. I already have a few that produce, but wanted more as not only is asparagus so tasty it is a great detox for your body

I made the mistake of planting asparagus in my strawberry raised bed. The asparagus is crowding the strawberries out, so I’ll need to move them this winter. The strawberries are just not getting enough sun. Do deer, rabbits and squirrels like asparagus as much as I do? How do you protect asparagus from browsing feeders?

When I was a kid there was a ditch bank across the street and we would see deer munching on asparagus once in a while. So, yes they will. We don’t have to many browsers at our place. An occasional squirrel and skunks. We are in the middle of a neighborhood and there are lots of dogs so u think that to keeps them away.

I would like to know,I want to dig up my asparagus babies. There in the wrong place, I lose several plants. Thank you for the info.

Move those babies when they are dormant for the best success. In the winter before the soil and temps start to warm up, but not when the ground is frozen.

My Asparagus Bed is over 10 years old. I noticed that the plants are getting very thin and are not producing thick pencil size stalks I added super phosphate last fall hoping to help. I want more male stalk’s. Do you have any solutions?? Thank you!!

Sorry so slow to respond. Asparagus are heavy feeders and they seem to really like well rotted steer manure. The phosphorus should help as well. Certain varieties will produce smaller spears like Mary Washington. I REALLY like UC157 for our climate. It produces large spears.
