This is how a video should be done not a lot of fluff just packed full of information clearly stated. I like how it was right on point the whole way thru, you did not have to listen to a bunch of stuff you could careless about. Thank you for a great video

Elizabeth Jozwiak Thanks for watching! Asparagus will be harvested throughout April, May, and possibly early June. As far as harvesting goes I'm attaching a Fact Sheet and there is a whole section concerning harvesting and it goes fairly in-depth about it all. Hope this helps! pods.dasnr.okstate.edu/docushare/dsweb/Get/Document-1101/HLA-6018web2014.pdf

Good video! I planted asparagus two ways; flat ground and raised bed. The raised beds did better. I have about 170 feet of asparagus planted and after the harvest season for me , which is from April 20th to about May 30th it depends on the climate and age of your bed. I fertilize usually after I harvest using chicken or cow manure. (commercial works fine) I do walk the beds and take care of them by weeding and getting rid of the beetles by having a little cup with water and a few drops of soap in it. Hold it under the beetle and they will drop down into the cup. As for the larva and eggs (for they will not drop) I simply use a scissors and cut that part of the branch off. Your call. thanks for creating this very informative video. i planted asparagus two years ago and nothing, perhaps my raised bed got too much water? i live at the beach and can only grow in raised beds since my home is built on sand. this particular bed only gets full sun from noon until dark. i persevered and re-planted last year. now i have 3 actual asparagus spears protruding from my bed. they get tall so fast! i am headed out to harvest my 3 spears. not much of a meal this year, right? here's to hoping this is the beginning of many years of asparagus in my future, cheers!-----from coastal delaware

OklahomaGardening yes, it's very easy to cut nearby spears, like I did. One should use special knife for cutting spears, otherwise it's better to snap them. Thank you for such an informative video.

Hello, my asparagus plant has yellow little flowers, should I be trimming them?
@OklahomaGardening
@OklahomaGardening 9 жыл бұрын
Henry Medina Don't bother removing the flowers. See if they are male or female by looking at the flowers or waiting for fruit production, if any, and then manage them. Asparagus grow as male or female plants. Both will flower. It is the female that one should be somewhat concerned about because they produce far less spears than males due to the energy going to producing fruit. Most selections today are male and you don’t typically need to worry about it, but, if you are not sure you can look at the flowers closely to see if they have just stamens (pollen producers of the male flower) or just a pistil (female part that develops into the fruit). If you can’t tell for sure if it is male or female by looking at the flowers then wait to see if they produce red fruits later on. If so, they are female and you may choose to remove them and replace them with male plants which are more productive.

I've just planted more than 200 seeds someof them starts to show up now and I live in Thailand tropical zone no winter and these plants need dormant? what do I do? wiil the plants dried out and come again?
