Great video, love all your videos. What about monitoring / refilling water?

Thanks! So Kratky plants are meant to be grown to maturity on a single fill of nutrient solution. So the larger the plant, the larger the container you should use. You _can_ refill the water, but not to the top. Only fill it about halfway at most to avoid suffocating the air roots.

I found some little black bags that fit over the mason jars. They have a fitting that allows you to peek and look at the roots and nutrients.

If you do not want to "paint" your jars another option I saw on a different site was to use black socks.

How does this system prevent root rot?

I've seen big bags of those clay pellets at Ikea, probably a good inexpensive option if people were looking for them.

Why should I paint the jar? Can I just to cover it with a foil?

can you just skip using the soil?rockwool plugs and just use the hydroballs as mediums instead? I have a hydroponic garden system, 12 pods, and am thinking of using some smaller hydroballs to replace the sponges as my medium. I would probably have to fill it all the way up though right?

I tried growing tomatoes like that in 5-l plastic water bottles. They eventually rotted. Now I see it was likely because of the water level being too high.

What about reusable linen cheese cloth with some holes for the roots?

Do they still need a grow light?

Can you use a snail for algae? It would create nutrients too!

Would there be a problem if you use glass marbles instead of clay pellets?
@ToadsTho Жыл бұрын
Yes, they won't wick water like clay does.

Good idea on the tinfoil to stop/prevent algae growth.

I'm very interested in doing this, as I recently moved into an apartment, but have large windows facing east. Do I have to use a grow light, and if so, which do you prefer?
