I have been trying to find a simple and comprehensive video on how to propagate and/or just grow plants using LECA. Yours definitely provided the instruction I needed. Thanks so much for keeping it simple. What type of fertilizer do you use when growing plants in LECA?
@PeggysPlants

I'm pleased you found the video helpful. I use the same fertilizer I use on all of my plants. I use Miracle Gro granuals at 1/4 strength. I know many people don't use MG, but I've been using it for years and it works for me. Thanks for watching!

I moved all my plants to leca and lechuza pon I’ve lost a few but it’s ok bc I’m learning and I love that you said you don’t ph your water I don’t either and that’s not a reason I post a plant I had put too much fertilizer in and my roots were sitting in water that’s the mistake I made but like I said I’m learning

Thank you for this video, I like how it's really step by step with explanation at each point. I have a question: do you remove old soil-roots after they died out? Would it be dangerous to the plant if I dig it out of leca, remove these roots and then replant into fresh leca with just water roots? I kind of feel I don't want to keep rotten roots in a jar
@PeggysPlants
@PeggysPlants Жыл бұрын
I'm pleased you found my video helpful. Thanks for watching. Yes, you can remove the soil roots. The nice thing about using Leca is it is easy to remove them from the Leca without damaging the plant/roots. I remove my plants to clean up the roots as well as to remove algae, without any problems. No need to keep the rotten roots. 🌿💚

Hooray Peggy for this video! I remember asking you about your orchids quite a while ago and I'm so happy to see more details on your orchids in leca. I feel comfortable rooting in leca but have converted only a couple plants to growing in leca. I really like the Talenti gelato plastic jars for rooting or growing in leca for smaller plants (yes, i like Talenti gelato so I have quite a few). I use a wood burning tool (outside of course) to melt/add two or three holes around the base for the flushing. The lid for the jar makes a nice little coaster for the jar.

Yes you can use a vessel without a hole. I like to have a hole to control the water level and so that I can flush the clay pellets periodically, Once the algea gets bad, you can just remove the plant, wash the vessel and the pellets. Then you just put everything back in again.

I do believe! That's great. The Hoya Kerrii in this video was doing limp and hadn't grown a new leaf in a year. I put it in LECA and it has grown several new leaves and is plump. LECA can give some amazing results. Happy growing!

Very cool. I have always wanted to try something like this. I love the look of those little balls. I do something similar with what I call bottle culture. I use it on phalaenopsis orchids outside.

Hi thanks for the video, did you find an all in one fertilizer with all the micro nutrients the plants need? I'm just getting into leca and worried my plants might suffer from nutrient deficiency? Any suggestions greatly appreciated thank you.

I have a tendency to keep things very basic. I actually use my same Miracle Gro granuals that I use in my potted plants. I've been using it in leca for years and haven't had any issue. I use it at 1/4 strength.

@PeggysPlants
@PeggysPlants 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Sally, thanks for watching. I don't sterilize anything I use, to be honest. I figure plants grow in dirt... I know many other growers have much different techniques than mine, but I've never had a problem. I try to keep things as simple as possible. Also, if you have a method that works or you, why change? Happy growing! 🌿💚

Hi there Peggy, I'm just getting used to Leca for my plants and so far so good.... My orchid is in Leca in a glass jar without drainage holes... Do you think this will be a problem for it? Does it still need water at the bottom of the vase?
@PeggysPlants
@PeggysPlants 3 жыл бұрын
There are many ways to use Leca. Not having a drainage hole isn't a problem but I always leave some water at the bottom of the vessel.

Why you prefer soil??
@PeggysPlants

I prefer soil for some plants and Leca for others. If it's a plant that needs to be watered more often than the others in my collection, I normally opt for Leca.

I always use 1/4 strength fertilizer in my plant water. Therefore, my plants in Leca get fertilizer with each watering. I also flush the leca when I see mineral buildup on the pellets.
