Growing Kentia Palms Outdoors in Northern California

Gary Gragg of Golden Gate Palms nursery shows off a Kentia Palm, Howea foresteriana, In Danville's Blackhawk California, a most unlikely location for this tree to thrive given its inland location far away from the frost protection of the warm San Francisco Bay. It's unique micro climate is discussed to explain how this plant is able to thrive in area where it would not be expected.

I have my kentia palm indoors, close to a south facing window. Winters are so wet and sometimes cold in Galicia, Spain. People here use to plant phoenix canariensis, washingtonias or tachycarpus fortunei outdoors. Anyways that garden looks awesome. I love palm trees

I saw realy tall ones in galicia depends where you live you can grow it outside :)i also saw some archonthophoenix alexandrae doing fine along the coast

Hey Gary - my Kentias are about 50 feet or more tall. and they have pups that are 10 feet tall. I would like. to divide the pups off the Mother plant and move them elsewhere on the property. I can't find any videos off in ground palm dividing. Can you explain how to do it please? thanks.

I have a small plant, which I took from the mother and put it in water for 2 months. It is still green Is it better to put it in the soil? Or stay in the water to produce more roots??

The top of kentia on driveway side is burned probably receiving to much direct lights

70年代はジョウジ.ベンソンのブルージンの影響で部屋で観葉植物を飾るのが流行り、ケンチャヤシを買ってソファの横に置いて音楽を楽しんでいました、しかし今はアレカヤシばかり貧弱で高級感がありません、育てるのも難しくなかなかうまく育ちません、お店に行っても欲しいケンチャヤシが売っ手ありません、店員さんもそんなヤシなど知りませんし手にするのが難しく、ほとほと困っています。
