@@cm9666 Not genetically modified. It is hybridized (selectively bred/ not wild). Part of growing large vegetables is genetics and part of it is pruning. In the case of pumpkins or melons, only allow a single fruit to develop while allowing the vine to grow as big as possible. In the case of things like tomatoes, digging deep post holes and backfilling them with compost allows for a more robust plant. The roots on tomatoes can grow 20ft. deep if uninhibited. So, to answer your question, people have been growing massive record breakers like this for a thousand years if not much much longer than that.

The leaves dry out during the daytime heat and sunlight, and during nighttime the plant can restore water to the leaves, causing them to rise again. On cloudy/cool days the leaves do not droop nearly as much as they would on a very hot and sunny day, and so the difference during day and night is less noticeable.

@A96Z86
@A96Z86 Жыл бұрын
Yes! Exactly that It's kept in a vine state by controlling the amount of light it gets, the less the light it gets, the earlier in the year the plant thinks it is. Therefore will not produce any fruit (vegetable?) until it is given longer periods of light. When you start giving it more light, you should have a large amount of vines and leaves to ensure as much energy intake as possible, then concentrate this all into one pumpkin. This works with any plant/fruit edit: except for autoflowers

I thought about growing one of these pumpkins for fun and to get it as big as I possibly could because that would be awesome but then I wouldn't know what to do with it afterwards. I don't nearly have enough chickens to tackle it.

Are all those leafy stalks from that one pumpkin? It makes sense that it would need that many photosynthesizing solar panels to support its growth, but it’s amazing how much ground they cover it that’s the case.
