Love this Zoe! I also don't count my car in my net worth. I JUST reached a $100K net worth in March (at 30 years old)...you'll definitely get there soon with these numbers. It took me 2 years and 3 months to go from $0 to $100K which was much easier/faster than going from -$82K to $0 (becoming debt free).

@@ZoePritchard Yes! Since for most people, once you get to $100k, a large portion of it is investments that are also working for you. When you really start out and you are building that foundation you've talked about, the money you are putting towards debt or towards an emergency fund, that isn't then growing itself as much as investments (obviously your emergency fund should be in the HYSA so you should be earning a bit of interest on it).

@@ms.z461 hello back, I think you can do it - I’ve been a steady full time job since I was 29 after having a kid and graduating quite late because of it. The first three years I wasn’t very well paid and also paid off the „little“ debt that I had (~10k). So having 22k at that point you’re far ahead. Consistency is key - but also remember to live a little and grab opportunities when they arise. Like going to the movies with your friends for 40 bucks - it might sting but you had a good time. Love this video! A piece of advice for anyone starting to track their net worth - When I was 24 with my first “real” job, I made a decision to start tracking my net worth and created a spreadsheet with the balances in each of my accounts that I updated each month. I’ve kept the habit up over the past seven years - it just takes 5-10 minutes a month! - and can now look back and see how much of a difference my personal finance choices have made. Seeing how the number has grown is so much more rewarding to me than seeing the number itself. Really recommend!

Great goal Zoe! When I was in my 20s, I set a goal to have $80k in investments by the time I was 30, and then based on 8% compounding interest I would have $1 million by the time I retired. I hit that goal and later realized that this is the concept of Coast FIRE 😎 Just for fun, calculate how much your money would grow after 20 years with initial balances of $100k, $200k, and $500k and 8% growth. You'll be surprised! Like Charlie Munger said, the first $100k is the hardest! ❤ Good luck Zoe!

This is so inspirational. I’m a bit behind where you’re at and this helped me find some direction. Im 24M and graduated in may starting from like -20k net worth. I’m following the Ramsey baby steps strategy, but I’m at a weird spot where I just finished my 10k emergency fund, am currently trying to save 10k for a car fund since I drive a super old car, and should be able to hit a net worth of about 50k by the end of the year or early next year. It’s been hard for me to context switch from the fast progress of paying off student loans, to getting ready for the significantly longer grind of saving for retirement and a house down payment and just general life things. Thank you for being so detailed at this stage in your journey. Hope you meet your awesome goals!

So exciting about your journey to 100k and huge congrats on paying off all that debt! Side note to anyone reading: please don’t buy an Hermes bag (or any clothing/accessory item) thinking it’s an asset - it’s 100% a liability. It’s wildly rare that someone will pay full price for a luxury handbag that’s been used, therefore it cannot be considered an appreciating asset. That said, if someone wants to buy a luxury brand item for shits & giggles to enjoy their life - and they can reasonably afford it - then have at ‘er. 🎉👜
