Keep going mate I started at 41... was in 7K debt and living in my overdraft. I'm now debt free have a 15K emergency fund. 20K saving pot and just surpassed ~$150K. Diversification and a clear understanding of your financial goals are key... I am almost 43 now!

I lost a lot chasing individual stocks and I feel pretty silly for not understanding how investing works. I have a double major in economics but I’ve been trying to make sense of the market. Well done on profits!

Keep it simple, buy things you understand, take some risk but don't try to shoot the lights out. I’m invested in ETFs, equity index funds, and individual stocks and use a CFA. On average, she takes 10% of earnings, but using *Lina Dineikiene's* system makes it much more hands-off. I conservatively follow her recommendations and market entry and exit points, and tbh this makes it fairly simple for me... I am convinced it's not just hard work but smart work :-)

I feel like I'm behind because my cash savings are kind of low this year but i bought a starter house and a piece of land to build my future dream house (in like 10 years). Sometimes it's hard to visualize when the majority is in assets but I think I'm around $75,000 at 26! Spending the next 1.5 years knocking out my debt from renovations/land and then I'll be super saving

I agree with your net worth concept. I am working towards 100k in investments. I am very close at 97k in investments! I have over 100K net worth though will be purchasing a house next month which will cause a large liability on my net worth statement. The house will cause me to have a negative net worth overall but I feel confident in working towards paying down a mortgage rather than rent and having an investment portfolio be able to grow to cover my future retirement needs. Definitely good to be working towards goals which look a little different for each individual

Just calculated my net worth for the first time. I'm 25 and have a net worth of just over 35k. I think I can hit 50k by this time next year and that's so exciting! The first 100k will hopefully be mine by 30, but I think I'll have to buy a new car (my current one is at 176k miles) so that may slow me down lol.

I think of net worth as a whole including anything I own. I do include my car because you could sell it at anytime and even in your accident insurance paid out the amount it was worth. When I calculate, I use the current value of the vehicle if I were to sell it. I also add any debt as a subtraction to my net worth so any loan for the vehicle. I also do this with my mortgage for my home and it’s current estimated value if I were to sell it. I think you could do an estimate for liquid and for owned assets even if depreciating since you’ve worked hard to purchase those large items (car, home, etc).

What I love about your videos is that you're so clearly not trying to prove how rich you are, and how you have all the secrets for overnight success. It probably shouldn't be as rare of a thing as it is, but almost every finance or self-development channel on KZbin seems to have become a bragging contest on how everybody is a millionaire and how you can be one too, if you do exactly what they did. Sometimes it even involves buying their course.

Loved watching this Zoe! I love how realistic everything is here. Just growing naturally, no beating yourself up for anything, that's the vibe we all should carry in our lives. I was someone who used to beat herself up. I used to see what other freelancers are earning and I made it mandatory for myself to hit those goals and compete with them. It took me quite a lot of time to fix it and get out of that mindset. Now I know its my journey and my journey alone and I don't need to decide what's right for me based on what others are doing.

I get confused when calculating net worth when it comes to including asset's... I have a home with some equity build up and a camp property, do I include that equity in my net worth, also have a union self directed pension plan can I include that?
@libbysworld7649
@libbysworld7649 2 ай бұрын
I include my pension in my net worth. Also, as far as your home, the total loan balance is listed in liabilities and any equity in your home can be listed as the home's full value in your assets, if you know that. For instance if your home is worth $500K but you owe $450K, you have $50 in equity and that will show in your favor in your net worth equation.

Hi Zoe. Great video. In my opinion, you should always encourage people who can't afford to spend money at the beginning of their debt free or finance journey to look into free resources first and then evolve as their finances allow. Everyone's finances are different and there is no shame in trying out free resources first. At the end of the day, the net worth equation is simply, what you own - what you owe. Cheers! 🙂

Instead of funds from your emergency account, why not take the money you need from an loc and pay it off when you can. Interest rates on LOC are usually pretty low.
@taylordeal4154
@taylordeal4154 2 ай бұрын
Canada interest rates on LOCs are pretty high right now. I have a high credit score and work for a bank so I get a staff discount and my rate is still 7.95%. It would be very difficult to find a savings account that out-earns that. The prime rate in Canada is currently 6.45% so you generally won't borrow for much less than that and that's with perfect credit
@tristang5030
@tristang5030 2 ай бұрын
@@taylordeal4154 I meant the rates on LOCs are some of the lowest you’ll find on credit products in Canada, i.e lower than credit cards and loans. And as the bank of canada continues to lower rates, the interest rates on LOCs will also continue to go down. If responsible, LOCs can be a nice way to borrow without depleting your savings.
@tristang5030
@tristang5030 2 ай бұрын
@@taylordeal4154 interest rates are steadily going down as the bank of canada continues to lower the key interest rate. LOCs only require you to make interest payments. The minimum payment on a $1,000 balance with a 7.95% interest rate is less than $7 a month. Using an LOC can be great for cash flow if you’re disciplined and will make more than the minimum payment.

Jesus, 100k Canadian!? GBP would be understandable but 100k Canadian should be fairly easy to achieve within a year. Also, genuinely curious about average house prices in Canada as 100k even in the UK won't get you a mortgage for a shoebox in London. Good job on being debt free though
@augustek5382

is it really that fairly easy to save 100k Canadian in a year?! on what salary? Perhaps if you are making 150k after taxes and live very frugally. 100k Canadian is about 75k USD, 100k GBP is about 133k USD. And people in the UK barely scrape by.. How many people her age have these savings in UK? Hardly any or some lucky ones inherited from grandparents.

@@augustek5382 Newsflash, people in every country barely get by. There are also plenty of people her age in countries such as the UK (I know, because I am one) that have these savings and more. It's not that difficult and no, I wasn't gifted anything by mummy/daddy or any other relative.

@@tg007ful you must be one of those very very rare exceptions in the UK, because people in UK normally don't even have any savings. Average annual salary in the UK for age group 22-29 is only £29,380. It is pretty crazy you can save 100k a year on these low wages in the UK even if you make a bit more than the average. Financial managers and directors make £70,000 annually on average which is not that much considering high housing prices in the UK.

@@ZoePritchard - good for you ZOE. You are doing an amazing job at savings and staying debt free. You even say in your video, that the "take away" is to just see the growth.. and not for comparing, if I or someone else has more or less. The previous post by Augustek seems more about EGO than encouragement (it's a common thing for that person probably). No need to worry!

Zoe, love the content so helpful to see someone else's journey in real time! I reached out over email but it bounced back, I run a financial services monetization blog. Have connections with most of the major banks and financial service platforms. We work with several youtube creators in your space that have found a lot of success, based on what you're doing i think you could have pretty significant upside. let me know if you want to chat for a few minutes, feel like there is a good partnership here if you're interested.

So Zoe’s afraid of tracking her net worth because of its emotional weight? Isn’t it wild how our finances can feel like a rollercoaster? 🎢
