In Northern California, we don't get enough winter. And we don't get enough summer. It doesn't get cold enough to accumulate chill hours. Then we get an early few days of warmth, followed by cold rain, to damage the flowers and cause leaf curl. It doesn't warm up enough for fruits, if any developed, to grow and ripen.

Why is compost a no no? Pretty much everything online shows to add compost.

Compost on the surface is good but when mixed in it uses oxygen to breakdown that roots need and causes rot.

Issue with nectarines branches drying up and dying off. Any help? Some kind of systemic Root drench maybe?
