I’m so happy I came across your channel! I’ve dived down the world of anthurium seeds and pollination so this was super great to watch!

I'm so glad to hear that Marina! I hope this gave you a little insight of what to expect. So far the seedlings are doing well in the soil i stuck them in. All growing their 2nd leaf, yay 🎉. I hope I can pollinate some Anthurium myself once they will be mature enough to bloom 😊.

Hey, just stumbled upon your video. How are the seedlings doing? Tried searching on your KZbin and IG pages but could not find an update 😊
@LeafyLuster2 жыл бұрын
I have shown them in a few videos, for example here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGiznWiubNGjesU at 17:03 THEN here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnfYgZmGf5mgnrs at 7:25 The differences are still visible. I potted them up into single pots today actually 😊 So they can grow without any competition.

I was looking for video’s about propagating anthuriums because I have a mama A.magnificum with berries that I crossed with papa A.forgetii. Funny I came across your video with possibly the same thing. What are the odds? :p I think your seedlings in perlite did best because they received more light reflecting from the white medium. I also think that is why they had bigger leaves with shorter petioles because they didn’t need to reach out for more light. The ones in the soil had shorter roots because soil has more nutrients so there is no need to send roots everywhere to search for it. And I think the soil did worst because there are way more microbes in it.
@LeafyLuster2 жыл бұрын
That's really funny indeed. I haven't even thought about the reflection of the white perlite, really good point! The nutrients in the soil are definetly a reason, but aren't microbes also important to the plants? At least the good ones :D

Did you ever get white or gray mold on your seeds? That's the problem I'm having now. Did you remove the lids frequently?
@LeafyLuster2 жыл бұрын
I haven't had this issue with these seeds. It was my first time sowing hosueplant seeds though. But I did treat them with the Sodiumhypochlorite to prevent exactly that. It desinfects the seeds and kills of any bacteria or mold on the outside ( learned that in my old job in the lab 😊). I guess ethanol or hydrogen peroxide solutions would also help with that. maybe you can try to remove the mold with a Q-tip and some alcohol or hydrogen peroxide solution ? If it is not too late. I did open up the lid once a week maybe. Definetly not everyday. Hope this helps.
@Veravvs2 жыл бұрын
@@LeafyLuster I actually tried hydrogen peroxide on a q tip yesterday! I'll keep monitoring them 🤞 Thanks 😊

Hi Christina 🤗I was wondering do you allow air in from time to time for the ones in the boxes for humidity or do you keep it sealed until you see a leaf?
@LeafyLuster Жыл бұрын
Hi Nell, I do air the boxes and containers out from time to time. Doesn't have to be multiple times every day but a few times a week doesn't hurt. Especially if there is a lot of condensation happening on the inside of the container. I usually just open the container to check on the seeds because I am impatient & then just blow a little fresh air in there to create some movement & then close it back up. Oh and in my experience it 's more important to air the boxes out once you have some leaves, so they don't "melt". The seeds don't seem to mind as much. Hope this helps 😊.

I wonder whether the difference between the three batches was solely down to light. You said the perlite batch was in a brighter spot, but also the perlite being bright white would have reflected most of that light so the seedlings would get even more. Whereas the soil mix being black absorbs most of the light that hits it. And the moss will be reflecting more light than the soil but less than the perlite. Just a theory.
@LeafyLuster2 жыл бұрын
Really good theory though. Someone else also made me aware of the fact that the perlite reflects more light than the other substrates. I am pretty sure it had some sort of effect on the seedlings. Since my sample size was so small it's pretty hard to draw any sort of definite conclusions though 😅 I think the amount of air circulation/microclimate of the roots had an effect too since the soil is more compact etc. Btw. You should check out my new video, I posted last week (Plant Tour). I'm showing an update on the seedlings in there & there are still differences visible.

I wanna buy some warroqueanum seeds, has anyone found the success rate to be pretty much 100% or should I get 2 seeds instead of just one?
@LeafyLuster2 жыл бұрын
Uhhh haven't had Warocqueanum seeds yet. Just from my experience with seeds, I'd say get 2. Even though all of my seeds germinated well, some stopped growing or are very far behind in growth. In any case, best of luck with them Maddy!

Excuse me where did you buy the seeds?
@LeafyLuster2 жыл бұрын
I got them from a plant friend in Berlin. He pollinated his Anthurium and asked a few people on Instagram if we wanted some. Unfortunately not a shop.

I wish they would be fully grown :D I had a few hickups, not enough light and too much humidity for a while that didn't do them well but Ii have shown them in a few videos, you can check them out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGiznWiubNGjesU at 17:03 THEN here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnfYgZmGf5mgnrs at 7:25 The differences are still visible.
