I buy whatever planter I see/like....regardless of drainage holes. If there are none, I simply layer the bottom of the pot with rocks, perfect drainage! I’ve been doing this with my house plants, too, for about 15 years. Never a problem 😊

Hi Leah, What ratio of rocks to soil did u use?

Rocks just make more water sit closer to the roots though 😅

At 66 I've purchased my first drill and now have my choice of pots, planters, glass bowls, ceramic bowls, tins, cups, etc. to use for my expanding collection (just started last year). Super easy to use. There's virtually nothing I can't make into a succulent container now. Great video - thank you.

to avoid root rot, i put rocks in the bottom of the pots, wether or not they have drainage holes, but i take them out every now and then to make sure the water isnt piling up.

I've been growing plants in general since I was a kid. Not completely ignorant about succulents but never really grew succulents until recently.

What I've done with some of my containers is get a drill out & drill holes on the bottom & sides. If it's glass or ceramic, it might be difficult but for me, it's worked well & it takes 2 seconds using a good drill.

Holly Keefer yes! I just don’t have the correct drill bits so I haven’t bothered trying since it hasn’t seemed to affect mine yet but that’s the way to go for sure if you can!

Hi Angel 😇 Some of us don't have the access or can't afford some good quality grow light like yours so it would be good idea to do a video about an experiment where you put one succulent under your new grow lights and another one under a regular led bulb and see if it works I've seen people who use them and it would be interesting to see the difference.
@AngelsGrove
@AngelsGrove 4 жыл бұрын
Diana Salazar hi yes, I completely understand that. There are options for grow light bulbs that are $10-20 that might be worth checking out. But I have been wanting to experiment with normal lights anyway so that sounds fun.

I keep many of my plants in the bathroom which is really too dark for them but I rotated them outdoors. I have more room outside and the ratio of time they spend inside verses outside keeps them well lit. I don't know what is happening to their blooming cycle. it's an experiment. I know they are not dying so until I move to my new place. I guess this would also happen in nature when there are more clouds than usual.

what kind of water you are using? City water, bottle or filter water?

The types of succulents or at least categories, and the different styles of grow... ie. times of sunlights and intensity, feeding, and needs... I’d love to learn that. I’m about to start some from seed.. and want to make a few new combination pots this year and would love what would work together best for growing different types in the same container or arrangement

hi jess, do you have a preference about white grow light and violet (red blue) grow light? and what is the different to succulent? thanks
@AngelsGrove

Susanto Tao I haven’t noticed a difference between the two for growth. I prefer white lights because they don’t mess with my eyes as much and look more natural

Hi Jessica, I wish you a happy new year 2020. An idea of video would be not only propagation (several ways : from leaf..., you have already done it) but also show photos with the evolution and the time that have passed. And then show the step when and why you decide it is the good time to put into soil (when we have enough roots or how to do with babies without roots). And the way you water babies (frequency and quantity to avoid rot roots (because they are not strong). Such a long comment 😉. Hope it is clear enough. Thanks for your videos. Bye.

@@AngelsGrove yes I can imagine a bit. Nobody do it exactly because it takes time and this is really missing to see pictures of the steps of growth. On blogs, we can read "be patient", "wait 2 or 3 weeks"... But photos could speak so much better if you can do it. Thank you 😀.

I water my cacti maybe once a month, if that. It is always better to error on the side of not watering. Only water once all of the soil is bone dry.

Could you do a video on succulents that do well (outdoors) here in Colorado year round? I’ve heard some can survive our winters but I’m not sure. Love the channel!
@AngelsGrove
@AngelsGrove 4 жыл бұрын
Nathan klein thank you! Yes, I am planning on planting some in my garden this year (I now live in South Dakota but we have very similar climates to Colorado). They are limited in varieties, but they are sempervivums or hen and chick plants. Some sedums will survive too.

I cannot seem to propagate my succulents. They either turn black or brown. What am I doing wrong.
@AngelsGrove
@AngelsGrove 4 жыл бұрын
Eleanor McNeal well usually when they turn black it’s due to rot. So try watering less.

The leaf dropped off the plant and started turning black, but the plant itself is doing great.

I'm such a novice, I don't even know the names of all my succulents! But I'm so in love with them! My hiworthia is in a tiny pit with no drainage, and is doing great. The rest, drainage holes. There are beautiful planters out there, but because of the lack of holes, I stay away. My question: when is "growth" season? Some of my plants seem to be growing babies on them!? Also, when propagating, when do they go to their new pot? Thank you so much for your informative videos, etc.
@AngelsGrove
@AngelsGrove 4 жыл бұрын
Anne Durkin hi! So that’s a tricky question. My succulents are all kind of indoor plants and so I actually never follow a growth season 😬 but usually spring summer is typical but depends on the succulent(so my answer isn’t very helpful) haha. I also have never fertilized so for me it doesn’t make a difference. For moving babies to a different pot for haworthias, I like to wait until the babies are maybe a dime width minimum. That’s usually when I trust they are big enough to be moved. Hope that helps!

Watching this in 2024, as we appreciate you being honest, it was a complete waste of time of you going into 4:34 of the video saying that if there were inexperienced people, to not go into non-drainage potting…. Maybe you were wanting to get credit for ads before that? Waste of time

Yes, I have an idea. Please get rid of that ring light. It's great for macro photography and other close up work but when you are shooting portraits or closeup video or people, they are so distracting. Just get a could of speed lights and maybe another backlight. or just sit by a window and turn on some indoor lighting. You can use some rechargeable LED lights for fill or splash lighting. They come in different colors and temperatures of white light. Anything will work better than having those white rings of light reflecting off your pupils.
