I am growing sweet pea this year I just left the seeds in the water until I saw sprouts then I put them in soil. It saves a step to just germinate in water and then sow. Thanks for the video

Sweet peas like to grow in clumps. Leave what you have and let the seeds drop. Don't move the soil or debris and they will come back next year. They actually do like to be on the ground or climb over a small mound. We had them naturally growing on a slope in our yard and we never did anything to them. They took care of themselves in NH.. I grew them in the mountains in colorado, from seed and they did well there, too. Other times, in warmer climates, nothing happened. You didn't fail. Next year you should have many more if you just leave things alone and keep out the wild animals.

I suggest trying a lot earlier because they like it cool. Also they are heavy feeders so loads of compost or manure. The ones that did make it are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

I think you are right about starting them a lot earlier, my wife said the same thing. Still don' t know if I'll try again this spring or not. Thinking of morning glories, maybe. Thanks for watching an commenting. Mark

Interesting. I did the exact same thing and it worked out spectacularly. What I don't understand is why. I am in michigan, in the country with deer and rabbit and they never nipped on them. I don't know why not. Thank you for sharing what did not work so well.

You got great germination at least. I hardly ever have luck no matter if I scarify or soak them. I'm so sorry you didn't get the results you wanted. Hubs and I have never had the critter problem you have but even when I could get sweet peas to grow they never got more than 3' tall, very disappointing. What have you decided to do along that back edge this year? And btw, have you ever been through a place in Wisconsin called Trempealeau? From genealogy I know that my paternal family lived there for quite a few years. I'd love to see Wisconsin someday.

This year I tried the sweet peas again. I started them in "Deep Rootrainers" (amzn.to/2zctUfm), hoping to get a stronger root system going. Still didn't do all that well. Planted what I had back there and then filled in with pickling cucumbers. They are growing really well right now, the pickles. Maybe next year.

they like a very rich soil, the plants should have the growing point niped out before you planted to make them more bushy.
