As a fellow youtube creator I can confirm everything Dan said. both about ads, their placement, and zero control over their products that they're promoting. I can also confirm that there are haters out there that are going to have something negative to say no matter what you do.

Dan, I started watching you during your TSG days. I think the reviews you do are very professional, fair, and informative. Your backshop series is also great! I've been in this hobby most of my life, and I'm not afraid to say I don't know everything, and still keep my mind open to new ideas, techniques, etc., and I've learned much from you. Keep up the great work and ignore the haters. You can't please everyone and there's always someone who thinks they can do it better or have a negative comment because they have to remind us of their superiority to us. If that's the case, then they're welcome to start their own channel and show us mere mortals the errors of our ways! Screw 'em and keep doing what you do! I'm definitely looking forward to the weathering series!

It takes a while but I do try to respond to all the comments. I appreciate people like you who are watching, and I like getting feedback. I empathize with your comment about the perception that artists dont really. As a professional musician, a violinist, I can attest that there have been many times when someone has asked me after a concert what I do for a living! After practicing 2-4 hours a day since I was 10, I have made a good living and raised my kids while working in a rewarding and competitive field. But no one should think that being an artist is not work!
@DanielCortopassiАй бұрын
That's rough. I've heard so many stories like that from other artists and musicians, and have had my share of it myself. It's unfortunate that our society doesn't seem to value artists unless they're super successful, but that seems to be valuing the success and not so much the art. Thanks for sharing and for watching!

Keep up the great work! I am looking forwards to the weathering series! Where was the first clip of the Caltrain shot and what was the UP train in the second?

The Caltrain shot was taken in Gilroy, and the UP near King City, both in California. The UP train had an interesting multi-segment continuous gondola. I hadn't seen anything like that before. I always turn off mid roll ads on videos that are not edited for them. I don't like being interrupted mid word with an ad and I don't want that for anyone that watches my content either. What annoys me is what I try to not annoy others with. I do have some videos where I edited it so it would have a mid roll ad that wouldn't interrupt what I was doing. Nice face out in parts.

I actually thought today's video quite good. A lot of questions I had about the source of adverts were answered. I never have assigned them to the YTer. Sorry to hear someone got hot under the collar. You don't deserve that at all. I enjoy what you doand demonstrate and though many might think its boring I grew up in SoCal in the 20th century and therefore think it's great when you show heaps of Espee equipment. Can't get enough. Or UP. Good luck in finding your power tools and whatever. Looking forward to seeing more of your garden RR. Will that be early 1900's ?
@DanielCortopassiАй бұрын
I'm glad you liked the video. There will be more SP content for sure. Though I want it to be well built and able to operate, I am less worried about pinning down a particular era to the garden railroad. Aside from one diesel, all the locomotives I have are steam, so it lends itself more to an old-time narrow gauge theme. I am not trying to go for any particular prototype with it though. In regards to the SD45X, you're an SP nut and ScaleTrains' Museum Quality line is meant for those who are dedicated fans of a specific road and anything unique that it ran. I don't think many people will blame you. If they did a run of the Super-7s, I'd be all over those because Conrail ended up with a number of them after snatching up the Monongahela.
@DanielCortopassiАй бұрын
I think the SD45X is pretty cool, and it's historically interesting even though there were only a handful built. They were kind of a predecessor to the SD45T-2. The Super-7s would be cool, too. It's great that manufacturers have started to model some of the less common types of diesels, rather than keep saturating the market with F units and SD40-2s. Thanks for watching!
