we have a five year old Saijo and Fuyu, also a twenty year plus old american persimmon tree(small not very tasty fruit). The Fuyu has produced a few fruit in two years while we had our first Saijo fruit this year. Learning and tasting this fruit for the first time was a true blessing, they are amazing, definitely one of my favorite fruits. We are a bit further north but glad we can grow these and glad there are varieties that do well in the southern part of the state as Persimmons are amazing lesser known fruits. Great video Paul

@FruitfulTrees I'm way over in Barbados in the Caribbean. Any varieties of Persimmons you'd recommend to grow here in the tropical Caribbean??

Awesome! Ordered a box of the fuyu persimmons, $35 for that large box is great. My persimmons in central FL are done for the season, delicious fruit! Planning to add Suruga next, can't find Triumph anywhere.

I bought an astringent Saijo Persimmon Tree from Pete Kanaris this Spring (per his recommendation, told me it was his favorite tasting). I live in Land O Lakes, also in zone 9B about 20 minutes South of Green Dreams Nursery. Can't wait to try the fruit! I'm hoping it bears next year.

Paul, Blessings. Can you Freeze them like the Mangos and the white sapote?
@FruitfulTreesАй бұрын
Not sure about this vatiety. I have frozen the hychia variety successfully. in fact I've frozen them hard and unripe and when they did unfreeze they were soft and ripe. They may work with the tropical varieties I hope to try one day

I let my excess persimmons ripen, cut off the tops, squeeze out the juicy flesh into a bowl, mix it with a fork and freeze the mix in a heavy-duty Ziplock bag. I make smoothies from my homegrown persimmons, bananas, starfruit and collard greens and add a little cinnamon and protein powder...Breakfast.

Confirmed. I tried growing 5 Fuyu persimmons from seed in south Texas zone 9a They all died in partial shade. They don't grow in our heat.

There's 475 species in the Diospyros genus(Persimmon's genus) out of which about 90% are true tropical species, so... I didn't expect to see kakis with such a title 😅😅
