Profeassor Saad and Ms. Mohammed are two gracious and engaging interlocutors. When I was a kid, during the 1970s, the Lebanese Civil War was merely a dramatic subject that sometimes was featured on televised nightly news broadcasts. (Israel's 1982 invasion of southern Lebanon kind of relegated the Civil War to the sidelines.) Apart from the occasional movie, novel, or poetry about Lebanon during that era, I must admit that I know little about the complexity and the hardship that, during those years, marked Lebanese peoples' existence. Mr. Saad's and Ms Mohammed's immigration to Canada seem to be Lebanon's loss--and Canada's gain. I would therefore relish the opportunity to share with them a meal that would feature shawarma, tabouleh, green tea and baklava, and smoked meat and poutine. Moreover (re Minutes 10-13): To this day, left-leaning Arabs can't wax sentimentally enough about early 1970s Lebanon being a "progressive," peace-loving, proto-feminist, Arab version of the French Riviera. The harsher reality is that the gangster PLO operated brazenly throughout southern Lebanon, using it as a training- and staging-ground to conduct cross-border raids in northern Israel--until, finally, The Jewish State said, "No more!" and invaded and (temporarily) occupied most of southern Lebanon.

❤❤... It just dawned on me,,, that apart from outer 'life' experiences,,, we may have had similar inner 'life' experiences... What I mean is that we may have been 'in the cross-hairs" of affliction, right out of the starting gate of our journey,,, as compared to others that posed a much lesser threat,, and are/were more inclined to following 'the herd', in their development of understanding and beliefs... This I 'received' as you were sharing about the darkness that surrounded you, when you were in your youth, while living in Lebanon..💜...

There is hope, parents!! I was raised in Texas very conservative, went to school in Boston, became very liberal for 9 ish years re-found my fear of God through Catholicism again in New York, and moved to Texas and am no longer woke. In my experience it took fearing God again, and searching for truth. that's the short story! haha

Small side note: some opposites are complementary, so you may be able to make a relationship work even if you’re not of the same feather. :) Of course… that could never work for relations between groups of people’s, unfortunately

Christopher Hitchens once quoted Anjem Choudhary from his BBC interview, The interviewer asked him. If this is how you feel about Sharia and total islamic law, then wouldn't you be happy if you move somewhere that already has Sharia? Anjem Choudhary: What makes you think this is your country?

@@starhopper1706 If you have a terrorist living next to you in 1946 onwards what do you think your own reaction would be? Trying to hide the history of events is a pathetic act of projection upon the other while all along hiding your true intent. Bully mentailty as well as highly narcissistic.

@@Ivan_Ns Islam was not responsible for the terrorist attack in Palestinian lands involving King David Hotel in 1946. The British Mandate actually promised the people of their mandated area a sovereign statehood of their own, until this terrorist orrganisation called irgun zionism acted to estsblish a psuedo judaic statehood instead. This split the then abrahamic religions into three well defined groups where before they were living in peace together under the secular ruling of Britain. The whole middle east has now become a war of religion, due to the confabulation of the religious texts involved. Rule according to higher law should be invoked to clarify the meaning of having a nation statehood in the first place, to ensure it following the correct procedures.

One of the hallmarks of western liberal civilization is that individuals are held responsible for their actions. Responsibility for crimes, and the punishment that ensues from those crimes, is not supposed to be collective, it is supposed to befall the individuals who committed the crime. This is in contrast to inter-tribal warfare, where if one member of a tribe kills a member of another tribe, the members of the victims tribe feel they can kill any member of the perpetrators tribe at random, even if the individual had no responsibility for the original crime. The problem with the Israelis, is they engage in collective punishment against the Palestinians for the crimes committed by individual terrorists, and the IDF murder Palestinians on a such a scale that they kill 25 times as many Palestinians as the Palestinian terrorists murder Israelis. This is not going to lead to anything good, and in the long run will be disastrous for Israel.
@PearlF888
@PearlF888 8 күн бұрын
@Alex_Plante Why don’t you educate us about how the great heir of liberal western civilisation, sent policemen to Nazi Germany to arrest Hitler and his gangs in order to avoid “collective punishment” to German civilians? Or how the American government sent FBI to Japan to arrest the emperor and avoid poor Japanese civilian casualties after Pearl Harbour. Your comment is laughable for its profound shallowness and ludicrous naïveté. What do you expect in a war situation, when the enemy embeds itself among its civilian population? Tell me one war in which civilian casualties was not a feature?
